- Must be a Certified Medical Laboratory Assistant of the Ontario Society of Medical Laboratory Technologists or the equivalent.
- Demonstrated proficiency in phlebotomy and micro-collection techniques.
- Demonstrated computer literacy.
- Recent experience is preferred.
- Satisfactory attendance.

**ACCOUNTABILITIES (Major Responsibilities of the Position)**
- Greets patients and staff in a courteous and pleasant manner.
- Directs patient flow. Handles or refers initial patient inquiries as appropriate.
- Reviews and completes requisitions to ensure that all necessary information is included. Computer data entry and specimen accessioning as required.
- Initiates and completes appropriate paper-work for patient payment process as required.
- Instructs patients regarding test preparation and specimen collection.
- Performs phlebotomies and micro-collections by heel or finger stick.
- Performs patient testing, and processing as authorized by the Ontario Ministry of Health, Laboratory Licensing division
- Performs daily Quality Control duties (excluding interpretation, and accepting), and equipment maintenance.
- Operates automated instruments after proper functioning has been established by a Technologist.
- Prepares reagents, controls, media etc. as required.
- Performs clerical duties as required.
- Orders and maintains supplies (as authorized).
- Performs other duties as required. e.g. Glassware and pipette washing.
- Participates in department continuing education as required.
- Within the scope of practice of a Laboratory Assistant, teaches and supervises Medical Laboratory Technology Students, and Laboratory Assistant Students.
- Responsible for training of new Staff as required.
- May work various shifts as required.
- Carries out other duties as requested by the Laboratory Manager or Charge Technologist.
