**Major Responsibilities and Duties**
Field, site safety, administration and coordination;
This position is responsible for ensuring that the highest levels of professional risk management and loss control performance are maintained by managing Kichton’s Health, Safety and Environmental Management System. You will provide operational leadership to provide internal and external customers with industry leading HSE best practices.
This position is ideal for an experienced health and safety professional possessing expertise in transportation and related regulations and legislation.
**Key Duties and Responsibilities**
- Participate in safety meetings by providing relevant information for use during the meeting and actively participating throughout
- Identify HSE coaching opportunities throughout the organization, offer yourself as a HSE mentor and actively participate in improving Kichton’s Culture with leadership and those on the front line
- Provide guidance, support, and oversight for HSE team members in executing their daily roles and responsibilities
- Provide leadership, and vision for future growth and development by helping Operations Leadership ensure employees are informed, aligned and accountable
- Collaborate with management to address all Health, Safety and Environment issues
- Support adherence to all company health, safety and environmental standards, policies and procedures while maintaining on-going knowledge of local, provincial, and federal guidelines. Transportation knowledge is critical for this role.
- Conduct fire inspections of Kichton premises and sites
- Conduct safety audits and safety equipment inspections
- Assisting in the development of health and safety policies and programs
- Booking and organizing safety tickets and training
- Own the Drug & Alcohol Program and be proficient with Canadian Model Protocols
- Communicating legislative changes to team members, operations leadership, and employees, supporting full compliance within your area of responsibility
- Provide technical expertise and support for implementing and maintaining HSE programs/systems throughout Kichton (Examples: Hazard Identification, Behavior Based Safety Observations, Hazard Assessment documentation, Inspections, Near Miss Reporting, and Incident Investigation)
- Other duties as assigned
**Role Specifications & Qualifications**
- 8 years of field experience in Health and Safety role
- 1-3 years of experience in a leadership role
- Formal training required; minimum National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO) or equivalent
- Preferred formal training; HSE diploma or certificate such as;
- Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) certificate or diploma
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation
- Certified Safety Professional designation (CSP)
- Working knowledge of related legislation and the ability to interpret the regulations and laws is required
- Training and experience dealing with the Worker’s Compensation Board (WCB) is an asset
- Valid class 5 driver’s licence is required with clean abstract
- Valid Standard Level First Aid
- Frequent travel to site locations is required (at least twice a week)
- Must be available for various hours of work as per site and client needs
- Operational field experience in Shoring & Piling or oil industry an asset

- Strong presentation skills, with the ability to adapt the style based on the audience
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills allow you to clearly and concisely present information to clients, peers and field personnel
- You take pride in a safety-first mindset and are proud to be able to quickly respond to emergencies 24/7
- Strong time management and organization skills will allow you to prioritize changing work scope and meet multiple deadlines
- Your strong negotiation skills and ability to influence others allow you to gain commitment
- Experience with using the Microsoft Suite and you pick up new computer programs/software quickly Bluebeam, Primavera P6 and MS Project
- You are highly motivated and proactive; eagerly accepting new challenges and working under mínimal supervision
- You have strong mentorship abilities and help other HSE personnel improve their knowledge and understanding of the HSE advisor role
- You can identify gaps in HSE performance and offer solutions
- Knowledge of current Civil & Piling construction practices, techniques and equipment would be an asset.
