**Working for the School of Dentistry**

The School of Dentistry is looking for motivated Medical Device Reprocessing Technicians (MDRT), interested in opportunities to join a dynamic team, supporting excellence in education and patient care. Working under the Supervision of the Medical Device Reprocessing Supervisor (MDRS), the MDRT is responsible for the duties related to the decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, wrapping, and sterilization of the Oral Health Clinic's dental instruments.

**Position Summary**

This position is a 15-hour-per-week position.

The MDRT is a shift work position with various rotating shifts between the hours of **7:00 am to midnight,**Monday to Sunday, shifts are dependent on staffing and current workload and clinical operations, and 24-hour turnaround of all instrumentation. There are opportunities for some weekend shifts when the School of Dentistry Continuing Education has scheduled training clinics.

This is a recurring position and there are inactive periods that will be based in accordance with the School’s operational requirements for the Fall, Winter and Spring terms start and end periods. The approximate inactive time periods may be between 5-6 weeks and can include: late April - late August, a week in November, mid December - early January and a week in February. Please note the hours worked per week and annual salary will be prorated to reflect this.

**Duties**
- Follows the Standard Operating Procedures for the cleaning, inspecting, packaging, and sterilization of dental instrumentation
- Is knowledgeable and skilled in the use and maintenance of all central sterilization equipment including, but not limited to instrument and cart washers, instrument tracking systems, hand piece maintenance systems and sterilizers
- Loads, operates, and maintains cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing equipment
- Performs standard tests to monitor the effectiveness of sterilization procedures
- Perform daily tests (Bowie dick, leak test, Biological integrators) and document the appropriate information.
- Check to ensure that the external and internal (when possible) steam verification devices have passed ( e.g. Steam indicator tape/ class 4 steam integrators on pouch/ class 5 integrators in pouches)
- Record and document each item being sterilized, either by hand or using the Axium sterilization module
- Sorts, assembles, and packages dental and surgical instruments and equipment
- Utilizes Axium, for sterilizing and outer barcoding, instrumentation and cassettes
- Accurately distribute the items to each department and or student making sure that the materials appropriate areas get the supplies needed
- Moves carts as required between the Dispensaries, Central Sterilization and Materials Management
- Maintains an effective inventory control system for equipment and supplies
- Maintains currency and follows all standards with School of Dentistry policies, Infection Prevention and Control protocols (IPC), as well as the adoption of current Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA), Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP) and Alberta Health Services (AHS), Alberta Dental Association and College (ADA+C), and The College of Registered Dental Hygienists of Alberta (CRDHA) Health Services or Health Canada, as applicable to the School of Dentistry
