Pet Therapy Volunteer Coordinator

Metro Vancouver Regional District, Canada Pets and Friends Full time

**About Us**

Pets and Friends is a registered charity that believes in the healing power of pet therapy. Founded on the knowledge that animal companionship has a ‘paws-itive’ impact on the well-being of humans, our volunteer pet therapy teams have been **sharing the love **with people in hospitals, care facilities and universities since 1982. We have recently expanded our services to include sharing the love through corporate health and wellness programs.

Our volunteers join us because they want to volunteer in their community with their pets and they understand how soft fur, a cold nose, and warm breath can bring joy to people and reduce stress. We match our volunteers and their four-legged companions with opportunities to serve in various Metro Vancouver and Fraser Valley settings.

**About You**

Have you ever had a dog turn your mood from sad to happy in an instant? When you’re feeling overwhelmed, can a chat with a pet restore your confidence to carry on? Our organization brings together people who are lucky enough to live with their own pets and people in various communities who want or need some time, however briefly, with pets when they are feeling sick, lonely, or stressed.

Our volunteers are generous with their time and their precious four-legged family members and we adore them. Pets and Friends simply would not exist without them. We are looking for someone who understands how precious our volunteers are and who will appreciate them, respect them, and continually find more of them

If you believe in the magic of pet therapy, this might be the perfect opportunity for you.

**What We Are Looking For**

You will be the first point of contact for potential new volunteers.

You will be responsible for re-defining the on-boarding process for new pet therapy teams and other volunteers. You will place new pet therapy teams in facilities of their choice and find new or secondary places for pet therapy teams who wish to change or add facilities.

You will be responsible for full cycle volunteer management (recruitment, screening, orientation, placement, ongoing membership requirements like proof of vaccines and up-to-date criminal records checks).

You will use our Better Impact volunteer database to maintain volunteer profiles, ensure data is accurate and up-to-date, and produce monthly statistics to track organizational performance (e.g., number of volunteers, number of facilities, impact hours).

You will document all processes and look for process improvement opportunities.

You will coordinate pet screening dates with screeners and orientation dates with orientation facilitators. You may attend or co-facilitate new volunteer orientation sessions and update content of orientations.

Under the direction of the partnership and development manager, you will conduct volunteer satisfaction surveys to collect feedback from volunteers. You will assist the partnership and development manager to administer the annual volunteer survey including programming the survey, distributing the survey, and collecting responses.

You will develop volunteer recognition programs.

You will research and write volunteer policies and procedures including implementing an intake and screening process for volunteers.

You will establish procedures to ensure records of volunteer hours are maintained.

You will ensure policies and procedures are respected throughout the workflow process.

You will conduct ongoing evaluations of the programs and services delivered by P&F and implement improvements as necessary.

**Minimum Qualifications & Skills**

Two years working in a not-for-profit environment

Ability to work very quickly and efficiently by maximizing the use of technology. Speed is important when bringing on new volunteers so they remain interested.

Ability to work as part of a team and individually, as needed

Understand the challenges of recruiting volunteers and recommend programs to attract, retain, and engage volunteers

Excellent written skills to develop and document processes

Excellent organizational and communication skills

Excellent problem-solving skills

**What We Offer**

This position has an hourly wage of $25.68 which is the 2023 Living Wage for Metro Vancouver.

Part-time position: 60 hours per month to start with opportunity to grow to full-time as the organization grows.

The opportunity to work remotely and be flexible with your hours. However, you will need to be available during some core business hours to connect with other P&F staff and volunteers.
