This position is with the Audit and Compliance Assurance Unit of the Health Protection Branch, which is in the Public Health Division. The Audit and Compliance Assurance Unit provides compliance, monitoring and performance oversight to improve quality and accountability of health practitioners’ claims for benefits under the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan.

**Role**:
Reporting to the Manager, Data Analytics & Monitoring, the Compliance Analyst is responsible for extracting and analyzing Alberta Health Fee-for-Service claims data in order to derive actionable information about non-compliance within the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan.

As an expert in advanced qualitative and quantitative data analytics, this position will interrogate data through the use of a variety of analytical and statistical methodologies. Going beyond manipulation of data, this position supports the execution of compliance reviews and audits by drafting detailed, comprehensive documentation in support of the analytic findings and interpretation.

Key Responsibilities Include:

- Using data analytic tools to extract claims data from the Alberta Health Data Warehouse for the purpose of identifying, assessing, and prioritizing areas of non-compliance that exist within the Alberta Health Care practitioner payment systems.
- Prepare comprehensive reports to support the audit and compliance review work within the unit as well as unit and branch reporting.
- Work with interdisciplinary teams to conduct audits and compliance reviews.

**Qualifications**:
University degree required. Majors in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or Statistics are preferred. Alternates accepted when supplemented by experience in data analysis and working with databases. A minimum of two (2) years related experience is required.

Other requirements include:
Experience working with relational databases and datasets.
Experience analyzing data and presenting findings in a comprehensive and coherent manner.

Preferences will be given to those with:
Programming Experience, especially those with SAS (Classic or Enterprise Guide), SQL (Structured Query Language), R and/or Python experience.

The following are considered assets:
Experience with medical claims data.
Experience with data mining.
Experience with data visualization.
Experience with medical terminology.
Experience working in an audit/compliance environment.
Familiarity with the Alberta Health Care Insurance Act, Schedule of Medical Benefits, Health Information Act, and/or Claims for Benefits Regulation.

Equivalencies may be considered on the basis of:
1 years of education for 1 year of experience; or
1 year of experience for 1 year education.
