Sunset Community Centre is seeking dynamic and organized day camp staff to implement and lead Summer Escape Day Camp (ages 6‐12). Summer Escape Day Camp Leaders and Assistants report to the Summer Escape Supervisor and Summer Day Camp Project Manager.

Every week, Summer Escape Day Camp offers exciting and engaging activities that provide opportunities to build friendships, sportsmanship, and self‐esteem in a recreational environment. Summer Escape Day Camp runs from July 2 to August 30, Monday to Friday (excluding statutory holidays), 9 am-4 pm. Before Camp (8:00-9:00am) and After Camp (4:00-5:00pm) are offered to participants who need care beyond day camp hours. This camp will take place at Sunset Community Centre.

**Responsibilities**
- Plan and lead engaging summer day camp program, ranging from outdoor adventures to urban activities, with support from Summer Escape Day Camp Supervisor and Summer Day Camp Project Manager
- Manage budgets, prepare reports, ensure waiver forms are complete
- Liaise with parents/guardians of summer day camp participants
- Communicate with community centre staff and follow organizational procedures
- Supervise, lead, and mentor Summer Day Camp Volunteers
- Ensure health and safety procedures are always practiced
- Prepare activity equipment and supplies for daily operation

**Qualifications & Experience**
- Experience working in a day camp setting as leader or volunteer
- Experience working with children and youth ages 5‐16 in a recreational setting
- Excellent communication, leadership, conflict resolution, problem‐solving, and interpersonal skills
- Valid First Aid and CPR is mandatory; second language is an asset
- Ability to work independently and within a team, and can make appropriate decisions as needed
- Clearance of a Police Record Check

**To be eligible (Canada Summer Jobs), youth must**:

- be between 15 and 30 years of age at the beginning of the employment period;
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the _Immigration and Refugee Protection Act _for the duration of the employment;
- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.

**Work Schedule**: 40 hours per week. 8-hour shifts ranging between 8:15 am‐4:45 pm, Monday to Friday from July until August, including July 1, 2024. Part‐time planning hours in June will be required, which include scheduled City Wide Day Camp trainings and workshops (hours to be negotiated).

**Job Types**: Full-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 2 months

Pay: $19.50-$21.50 per hour

Flexible Language Requirement:

- French not required

Schedule:

- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
