**Position: Summer Camp Leaders (8 openings)**

**Reports to: Experiential Learning Manager, Camps**

Science World is a mission-based, charitable organization that supports the development of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Design and Math) literacy across British Columbia. **Position Description**:
Our Summer Camp programs run in July and August on weekdays for elementary school students. Working closely with the Camps Team you will help to develop and deliver programs to enhance the experience of summer camp participants.

The Summer Camp 2024 Theme primarily focuses on sustainable cities and communities. This year’s camps are:

- Primary Science Camp: ~7-8yrs (2 groups)
- Intermediate Science Camp: ~9-10yrs (2 groups)

**Key Responsibilities**:

- In collaboration with the camps team, help to develop and plan a series of activities that build into a week-long program. The program will be age-appropriate, science-based and will complement Science World’s themes, mission, and character. Program development will begin in May/June (see Availability)
- Work with a co-leader and volunteers as a cohesive team
- Develop positive relationships with, mentor, and evaluate Jr Camp Leaders
- Manage and supervise groups of up to 20 children per week through various activities
- Exercise good judgement in independently managing minor behavior/welfare concerns and escalating to Camps Coordinator/Manager when appropriate
- Deliver scientific concepts in a clear, concise manner
- Lead various science activities and group games
- Ensure the safety of the campers by enforcing safety rules and regulations
- Liaison with caregivers about children’s experiences in the program
- Modelling and adhering to the policies in our Communicable Disease Prevention Plan
- Responsibly manage camper data using ATMS
- Perform other related duties as required to fulfill any changing business needs of this role

**Qualifications**:

- Must enjoy working exclusively with children for prolonged time periods
- Preference for staff with strong customer service skills
- Individuals must have a keen interest in and good understanding of science
- Knowledge of working with elementary school aged children and their caregivers
- Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential
- Must be responsible, reliable, and self-motivated
- Previous experience supervising children, preferably in a camp setting
- Previous experience developing programming/activities would be beneficial
- Able to participate in First Aid Training and willing to perform basic first aid (i.e., providing band aids)

Availability:

- Must be available Monday to Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm for the entire duration of camp delivery from June 18 to August 28, 2024, (Statutory holidays and Sat/Sun weekends off)
- Must be available on Training/Collaboration days May 13, May 14 and June 4
- Must be available for one (1) additional flexible training day in May
- A small amount of flexible hours will be available between June 4th to June 17th for program planning and prep

This is a unionized position represented by CUPE 1004. The compensation rate is $19.47/hour.

After successfully completing probation, will be eligible to join the Voluntary RRSP/TFSA Plan and receive paid time off (sick, wellness days).
