**Canadian National Railway Company (CN) is looking for a highly motivated person to fulfill a full-time (40h/week) Intern, Quality and Analysis - Asset Planning and Quality position in Edmonton, AB for summer 2023 (May - August).**

Job Summary

The Intern, Quality and Analysis - Asset Planning and Quality is responsible for developing an understanding of techniques used in the rail and logistics sector, in order to leverage large datasets, to provide insights for operations planning, and to develop tools and reports for Network Operations and Planning and other teams. The role reports directly with the Manager, Quality and Analysis, and works independently and provides daily or weekly reports on the progress and the challenges incurred.

Major Responsibilities

Create Next Generation analytic tool for CN Key Operating Metrics
- Use the current Morning Network Overview (MNO) report as the base to be enhanced
- Create a next generation tool that replicates the delivery of CN’s key metrics in a more interactive and intuitive manner
- Create and maintain an updated catalogue of CN’s Key Metrics Library that provides more information on data mining for ad-hoc users (e.g. provide Structured Query Language (SQL) sample code to extract the base data for each measure, develop and implement a more effective method to update and maintain metadata)
- Respond to any inquisitions on data irregularities or requests

Develop an Operating Metrics Trend Analysis and Forecaster
- Utilize data mining techniques to gather pertinent data for analysis
- Perform statistical analysis on historical data to determine any correlations between CN’s forecast files and historical performance metrics
- Develop a process to forecast certain metrics based on CN’s Revenue Forecast
- Determine relationships between operating performance metrics through statistical analysis
- Leverage relational databases and write SQL to prepare data
- Communicate insights using visualization and reporting software (e.g. Tableau)

Enhance Internal Operating Metrics in SharePoint
- Maintain the catalogue of Operating Metrics reports and tools in SharePoint
- Collaborate with stakeholders on the utility of reports, refine, and decommission
- Develop the metadata to guide users to helpful resources and evangelize the tool

**Requirements**:

- Strong knowledge of Structured Query Language (SQL), and Database fundamentals
- Knowledge of statistics, analytical methods, software development and programming

Education
- Working towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Computing Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Data Science, Statistics or similar discipline (minimum of 2 years completed)
