Sunrise Bakery is a large commercial bakery located on the west end of Edmonton. The company tradition began in 1963 and has expanded since to facilitate many customers across Canada and the United States. The small bakery ambience amongst 80+ persons is maintained by daily contact on a first name basis between staff and management. Staff retention levels remains unsurpassed, with many clocking in 10 years and 20 years of service.

**The Position**:
We are looking for a Quality Control (QC) Manager to join our team

The QC Manager will help to ensure the manufacturing production lines run smoothly and generate a consistently suitable output of products that meet quality and efficiency standards. The QC Manager understands the requirements of the company HACCP program and coordinates employee efforts between management and the production teams to ensure the program requirements are met.

To be successful as a QC Manager, you should have excellent communication and listening skills, with strong observational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. You should understand regulatory compliance and be skilled in understanding scientific and technical data.

**Quality Control Manager Responsibilities**:

- Gaining an understanding of the production requirements.
- Devising ways to improve the manufacturing process to ensure higher-quality goods.
- Ability to determine root cause analysis.
- Provide training in new processes or procedures for all levels of staff as required.
- Setting the requirements for raw materials from suppliers and monitoring their compliance.
- Providing leadership and managing quality technicians. Provide guidance on tasks, scheduling, performance reviews, etc.
- Ensuring legal obligations are followed and ensuring compliance with regulatory bodies and with health and safety guidelines.
- Ability to easily create procedures and forms as required.
- Ensure product specifications procedures and limits are in compliance and identify deviations from quality standards.
- Inspecting the final output, comparing it to the requirements, and approving or rejecting the final products.
- Keeping accurate documentation and performing statistical analysis.
- Attending meetings, submitting reports, and assisting external auditors and inspectors.

**Quality Control Manager Requirements**:

- Post secondary education in a food or science related field required.
- Previous 5 -7 years experience in food production or manufacturing.
- Knowledge of BRC or similar GFSI schemes and HACCP requirements.
- Experience in business administration may be advantageous.
- Strong attention to detail, observation, organizational, and leadership skills.
- In-depth knowledge of quality control procedures and legal standards.
- Strong knowledge of mathematics, data analysis, and statistical methods.
- Excellent communication and listening skills.
- Expert level Excel skills
- Proficient technical and IT skills.
- Intermediate level Microsoft Office skills

**Working Conditions**:

- Flexible hours and schedule with a Monday to Friday work week, weekends and overtime as required.
- Will be provided with own working space and computer.

This is a temporary, with potential for permanent, position to cover a maternity leave until August 1, 2024.
