**Salary range**: $86,000 to $107,000 per year

CADTH is Canada’s drug and health technology agency. We’re a not-for-profit organization headquartered in Ottawa, with a satellite office in Toronto. We’re funded by Canada’s federal, provincial, and territorial governments, with the exception of Quebec, to provide independent information and advice to the country’s publicly funded health care systems. Health administrators and policy experts rely on CADTH to inform their decisions about the funding and appropriate use of the drugs, devices, and services used to prevent, diagnose, and treat medical conditions.

Primary Focus
The Health Economist will lead economic projects at CADTH for various health interventions (e.g., pharmaceuticals, medical devices, and health systems). This could involve designing and building economic models, critically appraising economic models, and conducting budget impact analyses.

**On any given day, the Health Economist will**:

- critically appraise economic evaluations that will include validating the model structure and logic, assessing the input parameters and assumptions, conducting reanalyses using the model, and writing up the report
- coordinate the collection of data from the literature and Canadian databases and conduct statistical analyses to support the development of cost-effectiveness analyses and budget impact analyses
- develop and program decision-analytic and simulation models to evaluate the economic value of different health care technologies using Microsoft Excel or other relevant computer software and conduct model validation
- lead the development of budget impact analyses
- prepare written reports for stakeholders to present economic research and participate in expert committee or advisory committee meetings to present and provide clarification on the economic findings for projects they are leading
- represent CADTH at conferences and other external meetings
- provide input to and review reports of other researchers, including project team members.

Is this the right role for you?

**The Health Economist will likely have**:

- a graduate degree in economics, epidemiology, mathematics, or public health, plus at least 2 to 4 years of relevant experience specifically related to the development and/or critical assessment of economic evaluations and models
- a thorough understanding of health economic methods, with skills in computer-based decision-analytic, simulation, and statistical modelling. Strong analytical skills are critical.
- strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with multidisciplinary teams and expert committees
- the ability to work independently and to prioritize and manage multiple projects to meet competing deadlines
- a willingness to undertake training in systematic reviews and meta-analyses or other training as required
- excellent communication skills (oral, written, and presentation) to be able to convey technical information succinctly to varied audiences
- a commitment to high-quality work and attention to detail
- proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
