**We are currently seeking to fill the position of**:
Sunshine Garden Peer Assistant

**This position is only open to those who are current or past participants of the Sunshine Garden.**

**Duties include (but are not limited to)**:

- Assist with garden maintenance, which includes, but is not limited to, pruning, weeding, watering, seedling starting, harvesting, mulching, and turning over soil.
- Support with creating a welcoming environment for volunteers, mentoring gardening volunteers, interacting with the public, giving garden tours, and potentially speaking at events/with the media about the garden.
- Engage with volunteers in various garden-related tasks, imparting wisdom about the garden to volunteers whenever possible
- Assist in the facilitation of community-based workshops
- Support with the distribution of garden produce from the CAMH site at a weekly market stand, through cooking programs, and in take-home packages for volunteers
- Participate in FoodShare staff and team meetings, all staff training, and reporting requirements such as timesheets and handle other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience
- Must be or have been a participant at the Sunshine Garden
- At least one year of experience in vegetable gardening, growing food, or working with plants
- At least one year of experience working with community groups and diverse communities.
- People skills, i.e. helping people feel welcomed and valued, energizing groups, communicating instructions
- Communication skills, i.e. able to understand verbal instructions in order to carry out tasks, able to communicate issues you observe and propose solutions
- Demonstrated ability to work respectfully with people of different ages, genders, abilities, cultural backgrounds, and individuals who have experienced marginalization
- Demonstrated commitment to principles of food justice and anti-oppression
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision and as part of a team
- Demonstrated ability to be punctual, reliable, and committed to successfully completion of tasks

**Job Requirements**:

- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada
- Physical capabilities: Repetitive tasks such as bending, crouching, reaching, and lifting up to 40lbs
- Outdoor Endurance: Ability to work outdoors and remain on your feet for extended periods working outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions (heat, sun, rain, cold)
- Working some evenings and weekends
- Complete training to work offer from CAMH

**Compensation & Benefits**:

- Salary: $43,680/year prorated at 15 hours per week*
- Benefits: Vacation in pay (8%), 10 paid personal days, 20 paid wellness/sick days per calendar year (pro-rated based on start and end date), daily lunch stipend.
- Contract Type: Fixed term, Part-time 15 hours per week.
- Duration: 8 month contract (May 2024 - Dec. 2024)
- Reports to: Community and Market Gardens Coordinator
- Location of Position: Sunshine Garden (1000 Queen Street West)

**Selection Process**:
4. In recognition of the time and labour of preparing for and attending an interview, FoodShare financially compensates interviewees at a fixed rate of $75 per interview.
