**Brief Overview**:
The Métis Nation - Saskatchewan (MN-S) is the governing body representing the Métis people who reside in Saskatchewan. As part of the Métis National Council, the Métis Nation - Saskatchewan works on a national level to advance Métis rights and opportunities. The Métis Nation - Saskatchewan’s affiliates and departments deliver services, funding, education, housing, health programs, and register the Métis people of Saskatchewan. The Métis Nation - Saskatchewan is seeking a strong team player committed to quality service to carry out objectives of the Archives Department and to provide a range of service as the **Archive Intern. **This position reports to the Archives Manager and is based out of the Métis Nation - Saskatchewan office in Saskatoon, SK. The successful applicant will play an important role in preserving the governance history of the Métis Nation - Saskatchewan.

The Archives and Records Intern is an internship funded by the Canadian Council of Archives through the Young Canada Works (YCW) at Building Careers in Heritage (YCWBCH) program. YCWBCH is a federal internship program for unemployed or underemployed college or university graduates. It helps graduates make the transition from college or university into the workplace, allowing them to hone their professional skills and begin a career in the heritage, arts, and cultural sectors. - A Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or have refugee status In Canada
- Are legally entitled to work in Canada
- Are between the 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
- Are willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment
- Are unemployed or underemployed
- Are a college or university graduate
- Are not currently receiving Employment Insurance (EI) while employed with the program

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Work with the Archives Manager to appraise, arrange, describe, and digitize historical operational and administration records of the Métis Nation - Saskatchewan
- Support Archive Division procedure review and implementation
- Primary and secondary source historical research for archive descriptions work
- Support Archives Division in developing finding aids for current governance collection
- Contribute to preservation and other conservation efforts as required
- Maintain strict security and confidentiality of documents
- Adhere to records retention and destruction obligations as established by the Canada Revenue Agency, The Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, The Health Information Protection Act, and The Archives and Public Records Management Act
- Provide regular reports on progress
- Work as part of a team and independently
- Additional duties as assigned

**Knowledge and Skills**:

- Knowledge of Michif language is an asset
- Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and governance in Saskatchewan
- Knowledge of basic archival practices
- Ability to conduct rigorous historical research and record the origins and historical significance of archival materials
- English reading and writing skills
- Be familiar with the function of common office equipment, Microsoft Office Suite, cloud computing systems, and communication technologies such as Zoom
- Strong interpersonal skills and the willingness to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and work with appropriate judgement, discretion and adherence to policy
- Be willing and able to work in an environment where there may be exposure to dust, molds, and mildew

**Qualifications**:

- Post-secondary education in History, Indigenous Studies, Anthropology, or related field
- Additional education obtained through archival or records management technician courses and/or secretarial/administrative services training is an asset
- Experience working an office, archives, or library environment is an asset

**Additional requirements**:

- Must undergo a Criminal Record Check with the Vulnerable Sector
- Valid Saskatchewan driver’s license and access reliable transportation

**Job Types**: Full-time, Part-time, Fixed term contract, Internship / Co-op

Pay: $23.00 per hour
