Position Title: Withdrawal Management Intake Coordinator
Program: Specialized Youth Detox (SYD)
Reports To: Detox Manager

Position Summary
The Withdrawal Management Intake Coordinator is responsible for providing the necessary services and support to youth who are referred to the detox program and their families/caregivers. The Coordinator will facilitate the screening, assessment, and intake process and will provide individual counselling to youth in the SYD Program.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Well established understanding of child and adolescent development.
- Well established understanding of assessments, counselling and intervention approaches.
- Well established understanding of drug and alcohol addiction, relapse and treatment.
- Established practice in maintaining appropriate and confidential boundaries and other counselling ethics.
- Established practice involving families, foster care system, community, intervention programs, the Ministry for Children and Families, Vancouver Island Health Authority and other systems in service planning with youth.
- Demonstrated awareness of community resources for youth and families.
- Demonstrated ability to work constructively and cooperatively in a team setting.
- Demonstrated ability to use basic engagement techniques and evidence-based counselling approaches.
- Works closely with SYD manager and residential staff members.
- Knowledge and understanding of addictions services outside of the Victoria areas and the ability to coordinate regional withdrawal management services.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative and constructive liaisons/relationships with a variety of individuals and groups, including clients and families, ministries, other agencies etc. and provide effective community referrals.
- Maintains timely and accurate documentation, consent, confidentiality and duty to report practices.
- Prepares and delivers appropriate, clear and concise oral and written communication.
- Ability to perform basic computer and Internet skills.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s degree in child and youth care, social work or in a related human services field.
- A minimum of two years experience which includes:

- Knowledge and experience with vulnerable/high risk youth and their families
- Experience working with youth in a counselling or other helping capacity.
- Experience working with youth with addictions and mental health.
- Experience with community based programs and related community support systems.

Hours/Conditions of Employment
- This is a full time position.
- The hours of work are 37.5 per week.
- The first 6 months of employment constitute a probationary period, at the end of which a performance appraisal is conducted to determine the suitability of the employee for further employment.
- Must have clearance from the Authorization for Criminal Records Search prior to commencing employment.
- Must have a TB Test and a Doctor’s note indicating mental and emotional wellbeing.
- Follow the Code of Ethics, Mission Statement, and Policies and Procedures of The Victoria Youth Empowerment Society and abide by the relevant rules and reporting guidelines as set out by the Ministry for Children and Families and other appropriate governing bodies.
- This position will require carrying a pager and responding to calls accordingly.
- The SYD Coordinator works a standard work week (Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm) but in addition will occasionally work overtime hours to accommodate activities such as shift coverage, fund raising events and representing the Agency at public events. Salary is inclusive of all overtime hours.
- This position is required to work in a stressful environment often dealing with youth in crisis situations.
- This position requires the use of your personal vehicle. A driver’s abstract will also be required.

**Salary**: $48,750.00 per year
