Your Opportunity:
You’re a caring, respectful, and organized leader who can help ensure that our volunteers have meaningful ways to contribute that also support Alberta Health Services’ (AHS’) priorities, vision, and mission. They might visit with socially isolated patients, help patients and families navigate their way to specific departments for appointments or to find their loved one’s room, or provide a patient’s perspective on AHS committees or initiatives, depending on AHS needs and volunteer availability. AHS is currently hiring a Volunteer Coordinator within the Central Zone to help define volunteer roles, manage volunteer resources, make mutual matches between the volunteer interests and program needs, ensure all volunteers receive orientation and training, and to recognize volunteer contributions. AHS is Canada’s first and largest province wide, fully-integrated health system, delivering health services to over 4.1 million Albertans and is among Canada’s Top 100 Employers, Alberta’s Top 75 Employers and a top employer for young people and diversity. With endless opportunities for professional development, and comprehensive benefits, including health and dental, and a supportive employer, you and your family can truly thrive. Bordered by the Rocky Mountains on the west and the Saskatchewan border to the east, central Alberta is rich in farmland and natural resources, providing a diversified economy and lots of opportunity to flourish. Its lovely small towns and cities provide a great place to raise your family and become part of a close-knit community. With a wide variety of recreational opportunities in all seasons, living and working in central Alberta offers the best of both worlds. It’s beautiful, peaceful and provides a great backdrop for a fulfilling career.
Description:
As the Volunteer Coordinator, Central Zone, you’ll work with the Manager, Volunteer Resources, Central Zone, to develop, execute, coordinate and evaluate standardized work methods, protocols, policies and procedures related to best practices of volunteer management. In this role, you will provide direction to healthcare professionals on how to match volunteer motivation with their program needs work with all areas within the health care system to develop meaningful volunteer programs that support AHS vision, mission and goals. In collaboration with clinical educators, you will assist in providing department-specific training opportunities for volunteers, adhering to best practices and implement processes and procedures as per the department. Working with the staff team, you will ensure the determined outcomes for the volunteer program are met and support a patient-and family-centred model as you develop volunteer programs, ensuring client needs, concerns and issues are seamlessly addressed in a timely and professional manner. As the Volunteer Coordinator, you will maintain an up-to-date database and prepare monthly reports. You will keep abreast of emerging trends and new methodologies in Volunteer/Human Resources management and perform ongoing evaluation of volunteer programs. Your appreciative nature will shine through as you provide both formal and informal recognition to volunteers for their individual contributions. Participating in various site and department meetings and committees, you will ensure efficient and effective Volunteer Resources operations. This will include both facility and community meetings to develop working relationships with staff liaisons who are supporting and supervising the volunteers, and to increase department awareness, where you’ll provide presentations to inform, educate, and recruit.
