Applications are invited for the position of Manager, Research Facilities, Horticultural & Environmental Sciences Innovation Centre in the Research & Innovation Division, located at the Daniel J. Patterson Campus. The salary range is $76,029 to $95,038 for a 35 hour work week. Additional hours may be required as necessary.

**Responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:

- Manages all aspects of plant growth and production, including plant care, customer service, inventory management, and facility maintenance.
- Manages the operations of the horticulture laboratory and the postharvest laboratory.
- Regulates all environmental conditions for the research facilities.
- Coordinates the supply and maintenance of high-quality plant material, as well as seeds, pots, fertilizer, pesticides, etc. for research projects, by means of proper planning, coordination, technical expertise, and facility management.
- Procures, stores, handles, and applies pesticides as governed by Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks, and associated regulations.
- Monitors, initiates, and co-ordinates minor and major repairs and upgrades to structures including glass, floors, shading systems, venting, plumbing, electrical and refrigeration infrastructure.
- Conducts minor repairs and schedules maintenance of facilities, related equipment, and growth chamber.
- Designs, builds and/or installs equipment such as benching, lighting, evaporative cooling and mist systems, and insect containment.
- Supervises Laboratory Research Technologist, including training and performance management. Manages performance of direct reports through regular one-on-one sessions, and provides immediate feedback as required.
- Provides training and support for all laboratory, greenhouse, vertical grow room, cannabis facility, potting area, and growth chamber users.
- Procures supplies and equipment for growing activities and laboratories.
- Facilitates purchasing, scheduling, and coordination logistics for various applied research projects and technical services.
- Provides expertise in plant biology and horticulture to staff, faculty, students, and visitors, in support of teaching and research.
- Assists research leads in the development of new or existing research projects.

**Qualifications**:

- A minimum three (3) year University Degree in Science with a specialization in Plant Science, Plant Biology, or Horticulture.
- A Structural Exterminator license is required.
- A minimum of five (5) years experience working in an academic research setting.
- Previous experience managing plant growth facilities or in a greenhouse environment.
- Experience programming and operating controlled environments, including greenhouse and growth chambers.
- Experience in an academic laboratory environment is preferred.
- Previous experience in leading or facilitating research projects is an asset.
- Ability to work independently with strong problem-solving and conflict-management skills is essential.
- Strong communication skills as well as tact, judgement, and diplomacy are also essential.
- Knowledge of laboratory and greenhouse health and safety.
