**Job Description: Financial Controller**
We are looking for an experienced Financial Controller to undertake all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecasts preparation, as well as development of internal control policies and procedures.

This position will report directly to the Executive Director of the Toronto Metropolitan Students’
Union (formerly Ryerson Students’ Union).

**Salary**: $90,000 - $105,000
**Start Date**: Immediately

**Responsibilities**:

- Manage all accounting operations including Billing, A/R, A/P, GL and Counsel, Cost

Accounting, Inventory Accounting and Revenue Recognition
- Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances
- Assists the Organizations Auditors with the completion of the yearly audit including; requests, document preparation, sampling etc.
- Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements
- Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting
- Research technical accounting issues for compliance
- Facilitate month-end and year-end close process
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting
- Manage and comply with local, provincial, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
- Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts for the fiscal year
- Ensure that accounts payable are paid in a timely manner
- Recommend benchmarks against which to measure the performance of company operations
- Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit
- Assist the Executive Director, President, VP Operations and the Board with financial reporting as required at Board meetings and the Annual General Meetings and provide advice to support the decision making process
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
- Reports all financial operations to the Board of Directors

**Requirements**:

- Proven working experience as a Controller or similar position for a minimum number of 5 years
- Proficient with Sage Accounting Software
- Overall 7 years of combined accounting and finance experience
- Degree in Accounting, Finance or related studies
- CPA or CMA preferred
- CIA certification would be an asset
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
- Prior Board experience is an asset
- Experience with creating financial statements
- Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year end close process
- Excellent accounting software user and administration skills
- Familiar with Ceridian Powerpay or similar payroll software
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills
