Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure’s Environmental Services Branch is responsible for ensuring the department’s compliance with provincial/federal environmental legislation and the integration of environmental stewardship into all projects, activities and operations.

Conditions of Employment:

- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Must possess and maintain a valid Manitoba Class 5 Driver's Licence
- Must be able to travel to work sites within the province by ground, air transportation and boat and stay overnight as required
- Must be able to work occasional extended hours or periods of time as project demands
- Must be able to work in rough terrain, adverse weather conditions, and wear Personal Protective Equipment when required

Qualifications:
**Essential**:

- Degree in biological science, environmental science, resources management, environmental engineering or a similar combination of advanced education and directly related experience.
- Experience conducting environmental assessments and coordinating federal/provincial regulatory approvals processes
- Experience with environmental monitoring programs, construction inspection and development/implementation of mitigation measures
- Experience supervising staff in a team environment
- Experience with environmental survey techniques, data collection, analysis and reporting
- Experience coordinating project teams
- Knowledge of provincial and federal environmental legislation and regulations as it pertains to civil and water infrastructure
- Knowledge of transportation and water infrastructure including planning, design, construction and maintenance practices
- Excellent written communication skills
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational & time management skills

**Duties**:
Reporting to the Manager of Environment Capital Program or Major Projects, the Environmental Assessment Biologist takes responsibility for projects requiring internal and external environmental approvals to meet federal and provincial environmental legislation and applicable best management practices. This position provides support to either the Manager of MTI’s Environment Capital Program or Major Projects in supervising staff, coordinating environmental assessments, development of mitigation measures, conducting field investigations, review of scientific and other technical reports, as well as obtaining regulatory approvals for various infrastructure projects. The Environmental Assessment Biologist may also participate in large, multi-disciplinary projects and contribute to other non-environmental technical work.
