The After School Program Assistant maintains safety, and supports the program lead in providing a consistently well-run, high quality program.

The After School Program Assistant works part-time at our After School Program with children in grades 1 to 6. Programs are located near**:Weston Road & Lawrence, Black Creek/Jane & Lawrence, Keele and Eglinton, and Humberwood Blvd. (Finch and Hwy 27)**. Programs run 3 afternoons per week (Either Mondays through Wednesdays, or Tuesdays through Thursdays, depending on the location). The hours of work are from approximately 2:30 to 6:00 pm.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**_Program Specific:_**
- Assist in an After School Program for school-age children (6-12 years) based on the guidelines provided.
- Supervise children to protect their safety and personal well-being at all times while in the program.
- Prepare healthy snacks according to the healthy eating guidelines provided.
- Work as part of a team.
- Assist and support children to complete homework and other academic activities (in groups and one-to-one).
- Offer and engage in a physical activity program outdoors, or indoors when required.
- Assist in implementing art, nutrition, cooking, and health information activities.
- Assist in implementing social skills curriculum.
- Implement computer coding, nutrition and cooking, anti-bullying and other curriculums as required.
- Maintain up-to-date program records, including attendance, and My Macaulay database system.
- Communicate with parents/caregivers and teachers on a daily basis, providing updates about the children.
- Offer online programs as required.
- Set up and prepare classrooms according to the policies and guidelines provided.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:

- 2 years’ experience working with school age children in a recreation or academic setting.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent written and spoken English.
- Strong academic skills and ability to help with homework (grades 1 - 6).
- Ability to lead physical activity, health, nutrition and social skills activities
- Ability to prioritize.
- Experience working with children with extra support needs an asset.
- Knowledge of nutrition and healthy eating.
- Current certification in Standard First Aid/ CPR Level C required.
- Food handler’s certificates an asset.
- High Five Training is an asset.
- Computer coding and experience with SCRATCH is an asset.
- Acceptable Vulnerable Police Record Check
- **COMPENSATION**:After School Program Assistant Hourly Rate $20.30 (as of July 1, 2023)
