**EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY - WILDLIFE CARE ATTENDANT - SUMMER POSITION**

**TITLE**:Wildlife Care Attendant - 1 position

**LOCATION**: 190 Hanlon Creek Blvd, Guelph, ON

**HOURS OF WORK**: Full-time Contract (mid/late April to early September 2024); 35-40 hours/week; will include weekdays, evenings, Saturdays, Sundays, and statutory holidays

**KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES**:

- Provide short term care and feeding to sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife
- Administer fluid therapy, pain medication, and other treatments as required, to sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife
- Monitor the health, behaviour and well-being of multiple animals at one time and effectively communicate the condition to other team members
- Organize and keep the wildlife care areas clean, organized and running efficiently
- Ensure proper sanitation and general cleaning, including laundry duties and disinfecting of premises and equipment, in accordance with GHS policies and protocols
- Handle/restrain animals safely and respectfully, in a manner that minimizes stress and uses modern, commonly accepted practices
- Provide support and advice to wildlife-related inquiries, including conflicts with wildlife and concerns about potentially sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife.
- Assist Animal Services team with field rescue of sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife, and other assigned duties
- Cross-train and assist in animal care duties for dogs, cats, and small animals, as requested
- Liaise with licensed wildlife rehabilitators, building relationships with existing partners and expanding to others
- Coordinate volunteer drivers to assist with the transport of sick, injured, and orphaned wildlife to licensed wildlife rehabilitators
- Engage in program promotion to build awareness of our work with wildlife to ensure future sustainability
- Assist in reporting requirements for grant funding agency as well as provide regular communication and updates
- Develop and contribute to wildlife resources and programs as assigned
- Follow GHS policies and protocols for handling dangerous and/or infectious animals
- Maintain a high level of communication with all other staff and volunteers; Provide guidance and support to volunteers
- Transport animals for to wildlife rehabilitators, veterinary partners, etc. when required
- Treat other staff, volunteers and members of the public with courtesy and respect; promote an atmosphere of compassion, helpfulness, and positive attitude
- Immediately report all incidents of injury, property damage, absence of or failure of a protective device and/or equipment
- Work in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations
- Complete other duties as assigned

**KEY QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from post-secondary degree in a related field
- Experience (volunteer or employment) in wildlife rehabilitation, care, and treatment
- Knowledge of native species of wildlife and their biology and life stages
- Ability to safely and properly handle and restrain wildlife and companion animals
- Must be comfortable in conducting assessments and administering general medical care, including fluid therapy, medication, and bandaging
- Demonstrated ability to maintain careful animal records, observe medical conditions and/or changes in general health and behaviour
- Experience in animal husbandry and care of companion animals
- Demonstrated excellence in customer service, with the ability to handle high stress situations
- Self-starter and ability to work independently with mínimal supervision
- Ability to maintain professional composure and multitask in a high-paced, reactive environment
- Physically fit with the ability to stand for long periods of time and comfortably lift and carry fifty (50) pounds
- Valid Ontario Driver’s License (full Class G) with clean Driver’s Abstract; Clear Police Clearance Certificate

**Job Types**: Full-time, Seasonal
Contract length: 4 months

**Salary**: $17.00-$17.75 per hour

Expected hours: 35 - 40 per week
