BACKGROUND:
The Lower Fraser Fisheries Alliance (LFFA) is a collaboration of thirty First Nation communities from the mouth of the Fraser River to the Fraser Canyon. The organization is guided by an Executive Committee who is directed by Leadership and Fishery Technicians of the First Nations. The LFFA provides advocacy, technical and coordination support to First Nation communities and their leaders in fishery matters.

The Biologist will work with other staff in the Habitat Restoration department to plan and implement restoration projects in the Lower Fraser in collaboration with partner organizations. This will involve engagement with other biologists, technical working groups, First Nations community members, and resource managers within government and the greater community. This position will provide unique opportunities for career growth and learning. The successful applicant should be comfortable working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

KEY FUNCTIONS:
The Biologist will provide coordination, planning, program development, project budgeting, reporting, technical support and advice to Habitat Restoration Department staff, Executive Committee, Technical Working Groups and Lower Fraser First Nations. Activities include:

- Working with project biologists and First Nations to implement new and innovative habitat restoration projects across the Lower Fraser region;
- Liaise with fisheries organizations at the regional, provincial and national scales to support the technical advancement of LFFA;
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and establishing professional networks;
- Prepare and organize technical meetings, discussion papers, briefing notes and project reports;
- Facilitate technical sessions and assist with relevant event planning;
- Supervision of some staff; and
- Develop funding proposals to sustain and support initiatives of LFFA.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

- A Post-Secondary degree in a natural resources related field with a minimum 3 years experience in a similar position
- Knowledge of federal and provincial management of fisheries and aquatic resources
- Experience working with consultants, government agencies, and non-governmental organizations
- Demonstrated understanding of key fisheries interests of First Nations and the ability to develop innovative and effective approaches to pursuing them
- Ability to manage and prioritize heavy workloads involving multiple tasks and changing priorities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and proven ability to establish rapport with people of all educational and occupational backgrounds
- Proficient in MS Office suite

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

- Registered Professional Biologist (R.P. Bio) designation is an asset
- Valid BC Driver’s License;
- Ability to pass a Criminal Record Check;
- The ability to work in a team environment and independently
- Access to transportation to attend field work, site visits, meetings and engagements
- The ability to work flexible hours and away from home to attend meetings or conduct field work.
