D U T I E S
Reporting to the Manager, Work-Integrated Learning (WIL), the incumbent is responsible for liaising with
industry and community partners in the development of WIL opportunities for students in the School of
Indigenous Education and Culinary Arts programs. This role will identify, establish, and maintain relationships
with employer partners to create WIL opportunities that support student and program goals. These strategies
must be culturally appropriate, inclusive, and supportive of Indigenous students, sponsors, and communities.
This includes developing and nurturing relationships and networking with internal and external stakeholders to
support Indigenous student success. The WIL Coordinator will provide guidance to employers to facilitate
meaningful student work experiences and successful placements. This role guides students in preparation for
their co-op work placements and throughout the completion of their work term requirements. Duties include
delivering placement preparation information workshops and orientation for students and employers,
communicating with employers, faculty, and students regarding WIL opportunities, coordinating student and
employer networking activities, visiting partner sites, maintaining databases to track student progress and
industry engagement, and developing promotional materials for industry placements.
- R E Q U I R E D Q U A L I F I C A T I O N S- Diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution, preferably in a Culinary Arts program or related field;
Other combinations of education and lived experience may be considered
- Relevant and recent experience in progressive culinary leadership positions
- Lived experience and/or knowledge and understanding of Indigenous culture, history, knowledge systems,
and Indigenous community-building practices and protocols
- Ability to liase with industry partners to develop and maintain relationships
- Experience in career development, business development, sales, marketing or human resources
- Experience in guiding and or mentoring others
- Effective written and verbal communication skills in a cross-cultural environment with people of diverse
professional backgrounds
- Effective presentation skills
- Strong time management, planning, organizational skills and attention to detail for coordinating workshops,
including advising appointments, with the ability to manage and focus on multiple priorities
- Exemplary interpersonal skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills
- Proficient in Microsoft office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and ability to adapt to new
technologies
- Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous
improvement
- A S S E T S- Knowledge of barriers and challenges faced by diverse students in securing jobs and in workplaces (e.g.,
international/immigrant, Indigenous, and students with disabilities); skilled in strategies to address these
barriers
- Experience working with post secondary students
- Knowledge of Work Integrated Learning at the post-secondary level
- Knowledge of the current labour market for job development and employment advising
- Relevant and recent experience in community development & social innovation projects
