kihêw waciston Indigenous Centre is looking for an Indigenous Knowledge Keeper/Facilitator for a full-time continuing opportunity, that is focused on increasing cultural awareness throughout the university and ensuring cultural safety and learning for MacEwan students, staff, and faculty. In this role, you will build healthy relationships with students, strengthening their sense of identity, sense of belonging and self-confidence, and will provide students with opportunities to grow within a community environment that honors the distinctive knowledge of Indigenous peoples. In addition, you will facilitate better understanding of challenges Indigenous students face within the broader university community.

Key responsibilities include:

- Building relationships with members of the MacEwan University community and gathering information about learning needs in relation to educational development;
- Providing opportunities for student, staff, and faculty to gain knowledge and understanding of Indigenous history, traditions, teachings, and ceremonies;
- Providing Indigenous Invocation at the beginning of Convocation and other University events;
- Participating in and providing cultural guidance for university activities such as film screenings, guest lectures, discussion panels, workshops, academic projects, and cultural activities;
- Facilitating Indigenous knowledge based programs and workshops to increase awareness and cultural competency of staff, students, and faculty;
- Acting as a resource and advisor for MacEwan faculty, staff and students to actively respond to the TRC's Calls to Action through community consultation and training;
- Designing and conducting resources, workshops, special events and activities for student, staff and faculty, while incorporating Indigenous knowledge, practices and ceremonies;
- Working closely with Elders and community members to ensure inclusion of traditional knowledge;
- Preparing and coordinating reports, plans and communications related to programming and specialized events;
- Developing, documenting, and updating education programs, including incorporating additional methods of delivery to support Indigenous student success, both academically, and spiritually/emotionally;
- Establishing positive relationships with students through role modeling, mentoring, and guidance;
- Supporting students in the Indigenous Centre through one-on-one support and sharing circles;
- Conducting check-ins with student, staff, and faculty to offer opportunities to counsel in matters of case work and general well-being;
- Liaising with the MacEwan community and Indigenous stakeholders to foster and maintain relationships with Indigenous communities, groups, and organizations, identifying any opportunities for partnership; and
- Representing the University on relevant internal and external committees to share information on teaching and learning opportunities.
