We are seeking an enthusiastic and detailed orientated **Construction Controller** to join our team.
As a **Construction Controller** and a member of the team, you will be managing multiple companies by ensuring that all records in the company are accurate and that keystone recurring tasks are taken care of. They also provide oversight and work to create and issue reports.

- Ensure safety is a priority that is managed in every project
**Reconciliations**
- Reconcile the bank and credit card accounts (GL to Bank Statement), investigate errors and missing information, and ensure accuracy
- Reconcile AR & AP subledgers to the GL to ensure software accuracy, investigate variances
- Reconcile the GL to other statements (all except for vendor statements). Some examples are CRA GST, tax, and payroll accounts, PST accounts, provincial tax, or BC EHT
- Regularly review payroll and reconcile between GL, Software, and CRA
**Government Management**
- File and set up payment for GST
- File and set up payment for PST
- Calculate and pay income tax instalments, both federal and provincial
- Ensure payroll remittances are paid and recorded correctly
**Monthly Accruals**
- Review SOVs from PMs and update WIP and customer retainer accounts accordingly
- Update asset depreciation
- Adjust for long-term assets or liabilities, such as deposits or warranty work, and record to the GL
- Prepare tax estimate
**Payroll**
- Work hand in hand with payroll (either an employee or a contractor) to ensure accuracy. Review payroll filings each time to ensure accuracy
- Ensure that staff’s time is being appropriately recorded to projects or admin tasks
**Oversight of Accounting Group**
- Final approval for AP payments, credits to customers, payroll payment, and anything else that may come up
- Management of employees to ensure happiness, growth, and that expectations are met
- Ensure critical tasks are always completed on time
**Financial oversight of PMs**
- Meet regularly with PMs to ensure adherence to commitment/PO policies
- Discuss budgets and financial performance on jobs
- Work with estimating department to improve estimating and become more accurate
- Work with PMs to catch issues as early as possible
**Oversight of company performance**
- Review financial reports (gross margins, current ratio, profit margins) and prepare reports for CFO
- Prepare budget versus actual reports for jobs (looking at both quantity and at cost elements)
- Prepare forecast of upcoming revenues and expenses, and adjust to also show expected cash flow. Maintain as a living document that is regularly referred to
**Internal auditing**
- Ensure staff at all levels, including GM, are adhering to company fiscal policies
- Review of bank account transactions and random audits to ensure everything is following correct internal processes
- Check for weaknesses in procedures that could create opening for fraud and fix them
**Monthly - month end close**
- Ensure books are accurate, review all accounts, compare to saved data from the prior month to ensure no errors, and then lock
**Annual - year-end**
- Work with public accountant to complete the year-end quickly and efficiently
- Update our records with any needed AJEs
- Suggest new processes to controller where needed to avoid recurrence of the AJEs in the future

**Required Experience & Skills**
- Required: Designated CPA or CPA Student. Enrolment in the CPA PREP program is also accepted
- Required: Prior experience in an accounting position. Time at a public accounting firm accepted.
- Required: 5+ years’ experience as a Controller in a construction company.
