This position encompasses the overall coordination of the Student Practicum Program and will be accountable to the Manager of Academic Affairs & LHEARN.

The Student Practicum Coordinator assists the Academic Affairs leadership and team in the development and implementation of efficient and effective systems to support the goals of the portfolio and adherence to Lakeridge Health (LH) policies and procedures. In collaboration with the Manager, the Coordinator will help define metrics that allow the portfolio and the organization to measure and track outcomes to ensure goals are achieved.

This role works collaboratively with all members of the team and all other departments and programs at Lakeridge Health. Strong communication, stakeholder engagement, facilitation, and change management skills are critical. The ability to think strategically and critically is essential to provide effective leadership in ambiguous situations and ensure alignment with LH goals and priorities.

The Student Practicum Coordinator is responsible for the development and administration of comprehensive processes related to the coordination and management of student placements at LH. The Coordinator ensures due diligence around integration, liability, accountability, risk management, and evaluation. This position will work cooperatively with LH stakeholders and academic agencies to initiate, develop, and improve practicum opportunities, and requires evaluation of competing priorities on an ongoing basis to meet strict deadlines.

In addition to functioning as operational liaison with internal and external contacts, the Coordinator works with the Manager of Academic Affairs and LHEARN to promote and maintain external academic partnerships in alignment with the values, goals, and strategic direction of the organization.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
The role of the Student Practicum Coordinator encompasses various responsibilities aimed at facilitating the placement of nursing, clinical and non-clinical students within the hospital and long-term care setting. The key duties associated with this position include:
1. **Coordination of Student Placements**:

- Collaborate with academic partners and other healthcare facilities (as required) to organize and support nursing, clinical, and non-clinical student placements.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, standards, guidelines, and LH policies related to student placements.
- Oversee student practicum processes, initiatives, and projects (e.g., implementation of new onboarding solution).

2. **Communication and Liaison**:

- Establish and maintain effective communication with Preceptors, Clinical Practice Leaders, Patient Care Managers, Clinical Instructors, and other relevant LH team members.
- Serve as a liaison between academic institutions and placement destinations (e.g., unit, department, program) to facilitate smooth information flow and resolve any issues that may arise.
- Work closely with the Academic Affairs team and LH leadership to ensure alignment with LH strategic priorities. Endeavour to promote and embed education and training and a culture of teaching and ongoing learning in programs across the organization.
- Manage and maintain information about the Student Practicum program on the LH website and LH intranet OASIS.

3. **Placement Assessment**:

- Evaluate the availability and suitability of placement opportunities based on hospital/ unit capacity and the educational needs and objectives of academic programs.
- Assess the appropriateness of clinical instructors and preceptors to ensure a conducive learning environment for students.

4. **Documentation and Record Keeping**:

- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student placements, ensuring compliance with confidentiality and privacy requirements and regulations.
- Document feedback and evaluations from clinical instructors and healthcare providers to inform future placements.
- Implement a process to monitor and update affiliation agreements and certificates of insurance.

5. **Orientation and Training**:

- Develop and assist in conducting orientation sessions for nursing students placed in clinical settings, outlining expectations, policies, and procedures.
- Collaborate with clinical instructors to ensure they are adequately prepared to support students during their placements.
- Develop and maintain onboarding materials, preceptor support tools, and processes that allow students to be successful in their placements.
- Assist with cross-site and vacation coverage as needed.
