**Youth Outreach Worker**

BGC East Scarborough is seeking Youth Outreach Worker to promote positive relationships and healthy development for youth within our community. The Youth Outreach Worker will work in high priority communities and/or neighbourhood locations supporting engagement programs and facilitating connections for young people to obtain services such as housing, education, employment, etc. The objective of this position is to assist “at risk” youth in developing life skills to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Reporting to the Manager of Youth Programs and Community Outreach.

**Major responsibilities**
- Engaging youth (and their families) to identify issues and barriers to accessing community services.
- Work collaboratively with youth, their families, health promotion officers, schools, police and youth service providers to develop effective service delivery plans that ensure youth have access to programs, services and opportunities needed for healthy development.
- Engage at-risk youth while utilizing the Stages of Change model to foster relationships between the agency and youth.
- Establish and maintain a collective working relationship with community leaders, other professionals in communities and agencies to facilitate partnerships.
- Maintain strength-based and evidence-based professional standards of practice within the program, and to ensure that program service standards are in accordance with the Stages of

Change model, a Positive Youth Development Framework and relevant legislation.
- Collaborate with Youth Program Facilitators and provide recommendations to develop rapport and to administer support for youth programming.
- Research the constant changing needs of youth to assist Youth Program Facilitators in developing new program concepts.
- Maintaining service statistics and a system of documentation and reporting that is consistent with the standards and procedures of the service delivery process.
- Assemble data of surrounding communities (i.e. schools, agencies, etc.).
- Collect and maintain client information (i.e. youth, families).
- Participating on internal & external Committees.
- Post-Secondary degree/diploma Child/youth related field (e.g. Child and Youth, Social Service

Worker, Social Worker, Psychology, Sociology) or the equivalent combination of education and experience working with youth.
- 1 - 2 years of experience working in both individual and group settings with youth in marginalized neighborhoods.
- Experience working with people of diverse socioeconomic/cultural backgrounds.
- Possess a Standard First Aid and CPR+AED, clear Police Reference Check & Vulnerable Sector

Check and CPI Certificate (or willing to obtain).
- High Five Certification or willing to obtain certification prior to employment.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills, be adaptable and flexible and take into consideration the unique qualities of each client.
- Exhibiting organizational time management skills, accountability, reliability, and punctuality.
- Genuine interest in working with youth between the ages of 12-21 years and a clear understanding of the characteristics of youth.
- Demonstrate ability to work in a fast paced, team environment; ability to work effectively with limited supervision.
- Strong relationship building skills to develop rapport with managers, peers and clients.
- Demonstrated problem solving skills.
- Established case management skills including record keeping and capacity building in a strength
- based, client centered model of care.

**Job Code: YOW-23 Hours of work**: 37.5 hours per week
