Service Intake Specialist

**What We Will Ask of You**: Reporting to the Program Manager of Central Navigation, our Service Intake Specialist (Specialist) has an important role Working in collaboration with Canopy’s teams, you’ll be providing supportive and professional communication to people, their caregivers and community supports engaging in Canopy’s services. On most days you’ll be providing exceptional customer service by completing intake assessments for adults and children living with disabilities. You will be responsible for identifying their interests and needs while navigating them through our services and communicating with other departments. As a supportive member of our Central Navigation team, you will also be involved in creating communication resources, internal forms, flow-charts and other visual materials to help staff navigate the work they do and communicate externally for agency events and other specialized functions as required.
**Primary Responsibilities**:
- Complete central intake process for service users.
- Coordinate communication and service navigation with Developmental Services Ontario.
- Provide ongoing support to Program Manager for community engagement and fundraising initiatives: including planning and event coordination, public event attendance and networking, communication and marketing material creation and supporting ongoing donor relations.
- Provide supportive and professional communication to people entering service, their caregivers, community partners and agency staff.
- Enter and maintain service user files in the EMHWare database.
- Provide administrative supports on agency projects including creation of resources such as internal communication processes, flow charts, specialized visuals and training reference materials.
- Perform other administrative tasks as required.
**Qualifications**:
- Successful completion of post-secondary education in Business, Social Sciences or other related field.
- 3+ years of professional experience working in a fast-paced office environment.
- Experience or training regarding de-escalation techniques and crisis management.
- Motivational interviewing to gather information about concerns, skill level, challenging behaviour, goals and daily life from caregivers to guide the 2nd level intake process.
- Knowledge of Canopy program mandates, and service eligibilities is an asset as well as demonstrated experience of using best practice in supporting individuals.
- Working knowledge of the developmental services sector, Passport, APS and OAP guidelines, referral criteria for Foundational and Family Services and Canopy programs and services is a strong asset.
- Familiarity with Developmental Services Ontario (DSO) including a working knowledge of the DSCIS database system is an asset.
- Annual completion of a Criminal Background Check/Declaration, including Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS).
- Strong attention to detail, collaborative communicator, well organized with an excellent ability to prioritize, multi-task and take initiative.
- Ability to schedule work hours outside of regular agency hours of 8:30-4:30 Monday to Friday is preferred.
- Valid G-Class driver’s license for the Province of Ontario, access to reliable transportation and have valid proof of automobile insurance with driving for business purposes and a minimum liability of two million dollars.
