**Community Worker - Student**

The Community Worker will receive training to supplement their education and/or build on their experience with mental health and addiction to provide mental health addictions group programming to NISA members/clients. As a peer led organization, NISA’s programming changes month to month based on the interests and needs of members/clients. This is matched with the interest and skills of the group facilitators thereby giving the Community Worker the opportunity to develop their own skills and interests while also learning to listen to member/client needs. The Community Worker will work as a member of the in-house and outreach peer support teams and gain experience with administrative/office environment duties.

**JOB DUTIES**

**Provide peer based mental health and addiction programming.**
- Receive training and instruction in the practice of Peer Support and Peer Based Recovery,
- Become acquainted with the interests and needs of NISA members,
- Develop materials and lead sessions in topics such as recovery tools, sharing of personal stories, activities of daily living, skills development, goal setting, artistic expression, social wellness and recreation,
- Work as a member of the in-house and outreach peer support teams to build skills and interests and reflect these in monthly staff reports

- Be available to opportunities for learning and development
- Actively engage in self-directed learning
- Participate in regular meetings with project-related staff and supervisor
- Ability and willingness to work with individuals with mental health challenges and disabilities, treating all people with dignity, respect, and understanding
- Work within the Policies and Procedures of NISA/Northern Initiative for Social Action and NISA’s Core Values of Peer Support

**REQUIREMENTS**

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Excellent communication skills in English; bilingualism is preferred but not required.
- Experience providing wellness based support and/or services and/or facilitating groups.
- Passionate about learning how to deliver peer based mental health programing in a non-profit organization.
- As a peer organization, personal lived experience with mental illness or family/caregiver experience viewed as an asset to this position and we encourage people to self-identify in the recruitment process.
