**About Us**:
The Maintenance Enforcement and Victim Services Division of the Department of Justice helps facilitate court ordered child and spousal support and offers a range of services to assist victims of crime.

Within Victim Services we promote victims’ rights and interests and advise government on issues relating to victims of crime; and work with justice partners and the community to develop policies and programs that address the needs of crime victims. We can help provide the victim, spouse, or relative, with information, support and assistance as their case moves through the criminal justice system. When criminal charges are laid, victims and family members can contact us directly for help. We provide a range of services including the following programs: Provincial Victim Services Program, Child Victim/Witness Program, Criminal Injuries Counselling Program, Victim Impact Statement Program, Restitution Program, and the Sexual Offense Legal Representation Program.

**About Our Opportunity**:
Under the general supervision of the Senior Manager, the Indigenous Victim Case Coordinator (IVCC) is responsible for the administration and delivery of programs and services within the Provincial Victim Services Program to Indigenous victims of crime in Nova Scotia, in accordance with the rights of victims of crime as outlined in the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights, the Victims’ Rights and Services Act, the Criminal Code of Canada and the victim-related provisions of other federal and provincial statutes.

This position is the key Nova Scotia contact for all federal Indigenous victims of crime issues arising throughout Canada.

**Primary Accountabilities**:

- Maintaining an effective communication network with Justice, community and government officials at the regional level, liaison with the Mi'kmaq Legal Support Network's Victim Support Service program
- Coordinating enhanced services for Indigenous victims of crime within the criminal justice system and the community and providing navigational support, interpreting and communicating court processes and decisions to aid in understanding
- Monitoring and recommending intervention strategies to address identified gaps in service at the community level
- Monitoring and evaluating services and developing effective intervention strategies to meet the specialized needs of Indigenous victims of crime
- Providing training, supporting victims for access to justice
- Providing and facilitating referrals to culturally appropriate resources, and providing direct in-person client services provincially, primarily in the Dartmouth and Kentville Regions
- Operating with significant independence in the coordination of services to Indigenous victims of crime across all areas of the province

**Qualifications and Experience**:
Previous client assessment and case management experience will be essential for this role, as will decision making, problem solving, and computer skills. The ability to develop a network and work with community groups such as the Mi'kmaq Legal Support Network's (MLSN) Victim Support Service program is required. Your knowledge of the criminal justice system and community resources, the Victims’ Rights and Services Act, the Criminal Code of Canada, and the Canadian Victims Bill of Rights is essential.

A high level of judgement, independent decision-making and discretion is required in exercising the duties of the IVCC in accordance with the policies and procedures and best practices set out by the division. The IVCC operates with significant independence in the coordination of services to Indigenous victims of crime across all areas of the province.

Your excellent oral and written communication skills, good organizational ability and strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work as part of a team is essential to this role. You will demonstrate empathy, warmth and tact along with an in-depth understanding of human dynamics and the effects of victimization. Sound judgment and the ability to work with self-confidence and decisiveness are also important in this role.

Access to reliable transportation is required as you will be responsible for multiple court locations in your coverage area.
