**Position Summary**:
The Student-Athlete Advisor - Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (Advisor) provides academic advising and related academic support service to varsity student-athletes. This includes monitoring academic progress and eligibility status of student-athletes, creating and updating student-athletes records and academic success plans, and supporting the athletics tutoring program. The Advisor also provides coordination support for the Athletics Department relating Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion matters. The Advisor implements department-level action items relating to EDI and executes programming, education and training opportunities.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- With manager approval, independently designs, implements, and facilitates student-athlete academic supports for all George Brown College student-athletes.
- Applies theories of academic advising, learning and student development through individualized advising strategies, and oversees student cases to successfully support student-athletes throughout their College life cycle.
- Maintains a thorough knowledge of the College’s academic programs and student services, including admission requirements and academic policies.
- Monitors student-athlete progress towards athletic academic eligibility and graduation, conducting weekly meetings with assigned student-athletes.
- Keeps progress files and data on persistence and academic performance, prepares weekly tutoring attendance reports, end of semester grade and eligibility reports, and program enrollment summaries.
- Prepares academic pathway suggestions for current and returning student-athletes in consultation appropriate academic division coordinators as required.
- Collaborates with the Athletics Academic Assistant to engage student-athletes in the athletics tutoring program (including drop-in study hall, team study halls and tutoring).
- Development of department-level guidelines and protocols that align Athletics & Recreation activities and initiatives with the department’s overall strategic goals and policies towards EDI.
- Provide coordination support for the Athletics Department relating to Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) training/education.
- Supports the gathering of information and feedback of the student population through data collection and analysis and propose strategies to ensure athletic department activities reflect the diversity of student needs and interests and foster an inclusive environment.
- Implements approved action items relating to department-level EDI goals, including but not limited to Black, Biracial, Indigenous, LGBTQ2S special populations, and Women in Sport target groups.
- Other duties as assigned.
**Educational and Experience Requirements**:
- Three-year diploma or degree or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution in Education, Sports Psychology, Counseling, Student Support/Advising, or related discipline.
- Further education (e.g., certificate) in academic advising, career coaching or counselling services.
- Professional certification in anti-racism methods/education or Equity, Diversity and Inclusion.
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience in post-secondary/collegiate advising, academic counseling, learning specialist, career services or student affairs setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of policy development, policy implementation or consultation in matters of Equity, Diversity & Inclusion.
- Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds, including student-athletes.
