The Community Ministries Worker assists in organization of food bank and distribution of donations.

**HOURS**:

- 16 Hours per week

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
**General Assistance**:

- Organizes own work with some flexibility to choose alternative sequence of tasks based on the current circumstances.
- Serves actively as a member of the operational team in family services.
- Will assist with clients, intake new clients, enter daily data into Link2Feed as directed by the Program Coordinator.
- Checks doors and windows to ensure building and resident security; provides access to the facility and secures the facility as needed.
- Ensures that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is exemplified in the performance of all job responsibilities and through personal example.
- Prays with and shares the Gospel of Jesus Christ with clients/guests as the Spirit leads.
- Will assist with the Community Ministries Supervisor with reporting and admin work when needed.
- Believes in the mission of The Salvation Army and its values.

**Assistance with Donations**:

- Assists with sorting donations before stocking food bank pantry.
- Recycles bread daily/remove soiled donations.
- Rotates the donations: in the freezer, fridge, and storage areas.

**QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS**:
**Education, Qualifications and Certifications**:

- High School education.
- WHMIS training
- An alternative level of education and experience may be considered.

**Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements**
- Up to one year of prior related experience, including life skills and general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures.

**Skills and Capabilities**:

- Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills.
- Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility

**PREFERRED SKILLS/CAPABILITIES**:
**Managerial / Technical Leadership Responsibilities**:

- This position reports directly to the Community Ministries Program Coordinator
- This position has no direct reports

**Financial and Material Management**:

- Minor material responsibility.
- Uses or maintains organization assets in accordance with established guidelines.

**Working Conditions**:

- Typical working location for this position is in the entire facility and property designated.
- The performance of the job requires industrial cleaning equipment and tools, mopping/sweeping, bending/twisting/lifting, occasional ladder work and fine motor skills.
- The incumbent is required to lift up to 30 pounds with no assistance form others.
- May experience the following disagreeable conditions:

- Handle garbage
- Isolation and monotony
- Odors
- Dealing with angry people
- Exposure to drugs and alcohol
- Verbal abuse
- Exposure to toxic chemicals
- Various weather conditions
- Washrooms (e.g., human waste)
- Multi-tasking
- May have little to no travel required.
- May be exposed to the risk of moderate to severe injury or illnesses due to:

- Physical attacks by others
- Exposure to infectious diseases
- Exposure to toxic chemicals
- Moving objects
- Sharp objects (e.g., needle pricking)
- Electrical Hazards
- Injury from lifting
- Falling on wet/slippery floors
- Repetitive strain injuries (e.g., back, wrist).

**The above responsibilities must be performed in keeping with The Salvation Army’s Mission, Vision and Values, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct.**
- Background check consent.
- A clear vulnerable sector screening.
- A clean drivers abstract.
- Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
