The Community Ministries Worker assists in organization of food bank and distribution of donations.
HOURS:
16 Hours per week
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Assistance:
Organizes own work with some flexibility to choose alternative sequence of tasks based on the current circumstances. Serves actively as a member of the operational team in family services. Will assist with clients, intake new clients, enter daily data into Link2Feed as directed by the Program Coordinator. Checks doors and windows to ensure building and resident security; provides access to the facility and secures the facility as needed. Ensures that the Gospel of Jesus Christ is exemplified in the performance of all job responsibilities and through personal example. Prays with and shares the Gospel of Jesus Christ with clients/guests as the Spirit leads. Will assist with the Community Ministries Supervisor with reporting and admin work when needed. Believes in the mission of The Salvation Army and its values.Assistance with Donations:
Assists with sorting donations before stocking food bank pantry. Recycles bread daily/remove soiled donations. Rotates the donations: in the freezer, fridge, and storage areas.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
Education, Qualifications and Certifications:
High School education. WHMIS training An alternative level of education and experience may be considered.Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements
Up to one year of prior related experience, including life skills and general familiarity with cleaning and maintenance procedures.Skills and Capabilities:
Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills. Strong sense of integrity and confidentiality with professional ethics and a balanced sense of fairness and flexibility

Minor material responsibility. Uses or maintains organization assets in accordance with established guidelines.Working Conditions:
Typical working location for this position is in the entire facility and property designated. The performance of the job requires industrial cleaning equipment and tools, mopping/sweeping, bending/twisting/lifting, occasional ladder work and fine motor skills. The incumbent is required to lift up to 30 pounds with no assistance form others. May experience the following disagreeable conditions: Handle garbageIsolation and monotonyOdorsDealing with angry peopleExposure to drugs and alcoholVerbal abuseExposure to toxic chemicalsVarious weather conditionsWashrooms (e.g., human waste)Multi-tasking May have little to no travel required. May be exposed to the risk of moderate to severe injury or illnesses due to: Physical attacks by othersExposure to infectious diseasesExposure to toxic chemicalsMoving objectsSharp objects (e.g., needle pricking)Electrical HazardsInjury from liftingFalling on wet/slippery floorsRepetitive strain injuries (e.g., back, wrist).The above responsibilities must be performed in keeping with The Salvation Army’s Mission, Vision and Values, in a professional manner, upholding our code of conduct.
