**Role Expectations & Summary**:
Our Individuals living at Acadia are looking for a Community Disability Practitioner for their daily needs. The expected diagnoses for the Individual are Autism, ADHD, and migraines. Our Individuals are non-verbal and have high sensory needs. A behavioural support plan will be provided to advance and achieve Individuals' goals. The position requires supporting Individuals with transportation, personal care, attending medical appointment, and interacting in swimming pools. We will prefer someone who may have relevant experience with advance communication software and/or tools to converse with our Individuals. There will be other expectations such as hygiene routines, personal care meal preparation, daily house chores, and medication administration. Driving is a requirement for this position so you must be comfortable driving in all quadrants of Calgary.
**About You**:
- You are patient and understanding about the needs of people with disabilities
- You are comfortable with providing full personal care, participating in social and recreational activities such as swimming, and advocating for the Individual in the community
- You can suggest different communication strategies for our non-verbal Individuals
- You have a good understanding and relevant experience with sensory integration and its strategies to prevent harm
- You can encourage healthy living style & advance social interactions for our Individuals
- You are willing to follow the agency's policies and procedures
- You are willing to take the time to understand and know your Individual and act/respond in their best interest while maintaining professional boundaries
- You are willing to research, develop, and implement programs for the growth of Individuals
- You can easily manage administrative work to create reports regarding Individuals' behaviors and actions
**Schedule & Benefits**:
This permanent position is for 36-44 hours/week, averaging to 40 hours at our Acadia group home, which is in South East area of Calgary. The schedule will be rotational with the requirement to work 12 hours per shift. More specifications regarding the schedule will be shared during the phone interview. The starting pay rate for this position will be $21.19. After three months probationary period, you will be eligible for health and dental benefits along with 5 flex days after the six months of employment.
**Minimum Requirements**:
- Minimum of a Certification or Diploma in the Human Services sector or Disability Sector (equivalencies will be considered, programs completed internationally may require a WES or IQAS assessment)
- Must provide a valid class 5 driver's license and have a reliable vehicle with a minimum $2,000,000 third-party liability insurance
- Must comfortable with driving and swimming activities
- Past experience with ADHD and Autism will be an asset
- Intermediate in computer skills and administration skills
- Provide medical, technological, environmental, physical, and behavioural support
- Minimum required training in Emergency First Aid & CPR Level A
**Preferred Requirements**:
- Previous knowledge regarding sensory needs and communicating with non-verbal Individuals would be an asset
- Previously trained and have the knowledge of medication administration
- One to two years of relevant experience in the human services field would be an asset
- Relevant trainings such as Non-violent Crises Intervention, Abuse Prevention Response Protocol, and Positive Behavior Supports, etc.
- Additional training requirements upon hiring would be Trauma Informed Care, Naloxone, Mental Health First Aid
Covid-19 Vaccination Policy - New Age Services Inc does require proof of full vaccination (minimum of two doses) to be submitted before hire date or proof of accepted exemption.
