In-Scope
Work Location: This role is eligible for hybrid - this means you’ll have the flexibility of working from home and in the office (Edmonton or Calgary), on a scheduled rotation once probation requirements have been met. Until then, the successful incumbent will be expected to work on-site, full-time.
Key Accountabilities

Quantification of Auto and Heavy Equipment Damage
- Reviews damage estimates and photos for heavy equipment, heavy classified trucks and trailers, and passenger vehicles to ensure damage correlates with loss details.
- Determines parts and labour required to complete repairs economically and enters into the appraisal system.
- Determines appropriate depreciation and betterment for parts and ensures repair shops are in compliance with SGI standards and guidelines.
- Coordinates teardowns to determine damage extent, reparability or total loss.
- Completes disposition reports and adheres to Alberta Transportation regulations.
Customer Experience
- Conducts post-repair audits and investigates and resolves complaints of substandard repairs.
- Discusses and explains appraisal details with claimants, including betterments, depreciation, cash settlements, appearance allowances and total loss settlements.
- Ensures accurate and timely reviews of vehicle damages to satisfy service standards for SGI customers.
Relationship Management
- Liaises with body shops to resolves appraisal discrepancies and other concerns or problems.
- Builds and maintains effective working relationships with body shops, and visits shops to improve relationships.
- Explores and presents new information from industry related networks.
- Collaborates with all members of the claims department.
Functional Supervision (Auto Appraiser)
- Acts as a resource and provides support, guidance, advice and direction.
- Trains, mentors and coaches.
- Delegates and ensures quality of work.
Leadership

Corporate Management
- Enables the success of programs and policies that are in alignment with corporate, strategic and divisional strategies.

- Ensures that the Health, Safety and Emergency Management Policy is applied in area of responsibility.
Education and Experience
- A journeyperson motor vehicle body repairer certificate.
- 5 - 7 years’ experience estimating and repairing vehicle damage on a combination of private passenger and heavy-duty commercial vehicles.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of motor vehicle construction, repair and mechanical operation.
- Knowledge of flat rate manuals related to all vehicle manufacturers.
- Knowledge of vehicle estimating and appraisal systems.
- Skilled in estimating heavy-duty commercial and private passenger vehicle damage.
- Ability to communicate ideas effectively to a diverse audience.
