We are looking for people across all our rich diversity to help keep the City of Edmonton clean as a Waste Collection Labourer.

**What will you be doing?**
- This role includes heavy, manual work as they push/ pull garbage and food scraps carts to and from the collection vehicle and manually load recyclable materials, and Grass/ Leaf and Yard Waste
- Provide guidance to the driver in backing up situations
- Collectors identify surrounding/overhead hazards that will cause issues during the loading process, and ensure public safety is considered and communicated to the Waste Operator
- Employees in this class do not drive or operate collection vehicles
- Adhere to safety and environmental regulations and work procedures
- Maintain a positive customer service attitude in the performance of all duties
- Perform related duties as required
- Maintain a clean and sanitary collection vehicle including cleaning hoppers/traps daily

**Work Environment**:

- Working for extended periods in all weather conditions. Physically strenuous labor is required when maneuvering carts to pick-up areas and return them to their original locations.

**Qualifications**:

- Completed Grade 12
- 1 year of labourer experience required

**Assets**:

- Valid Alberta Class 5Q license is an asset
- Current Standard First Aid certification is an asset

**Skills Required for Success**:

- Ability to perform heavy, strenuous and agility intensive labour for extended periods of time and under extreme weather conditions
- Knowledge of appropriate material handling practices to avoid skin and eye contamination, cuts, slipping, and associated mishaps
- Ability to deal with the public during pickup of refuse and to resolve complaints of a minor nature
- Ability to work alone with little or no supervision, as well as the ability to work with a small team

**Conditions of Employment**:

- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
- Passing a physical strength evaluation (Functional Ability Recruitment Evaluation test F.A.R.E.) and a pre-employment City medical examination is a requirement of this position
- **Hours of Work**: Various shifts, 40 hours per week. Overtime work may be required during peak operational periods

**_ Up to 20 temporary full-time positions for up to 10 months_**
