**Our Team**:
As an integral member of our Community Planning management team, you will be a part of a dynamic team that is committed to establishing, planning and achieving the Region’s long-term vision for growth. Reporting to the Manager, Development Planning, you will work closely with the Management team, Area Municipal staff, the development industry, internal departments and the community. You will lead a team responsible for the development and implementation of world class research, data and analytics programs.
**The Opportunity**:
As Supervisor, Policy, Data & Research, you will lead the creation of short and long-term growth monitoring programs in collaboration with internal and external staff. You will supervise demographic, economic, and land use-related research and data analytics to support regional, provincial, and national policies, programs, and projects.

**What you will do**:
- You will have the responsibility to supervise a team of Planners, Planning Data Analysts, and students.
- You will supervise the development and maintenance of information systems for planning and monitoring in the Division, including research, planning, evaluation, and reporting activities.
- You will lead research to implement and guide the development of new initiatives, planning projects, and studies.
- You will supervise the development of populations and employment forecasts and provide forecasting models and data sets for inclusion in master plans used by other departments, and ensuring work aligns with corporate priorities.
- You will bring your experience in maintaining corporate research activities, planning needs, work plans and projects.
- You will manage working relationships with academic, municipal, and community agencies to undertake joint research, and facilitates sharing of data and protection of licensed data.
- You will chair and participate in inter-agency research and analysis working groups related to research, corporate priorities, and community initiatives.
- You will negotiate data agreements in consultation with departments, for resource, information exchange, and confidentiality requirements.
- You will supervise and responds to data and information requests from Council, the public, academics, area municipalities, consultants, media, and other regional staff.
- You will recommend purchasing new software, and equipment and manage vendor selection, proposals, contracts, and contract negotiations.
- Your leadership skills will include strong business acumen, exceptional communication, and human relations to prepare and deliver presentations, deliver complex technical information to staff and advise and lead projects, and project teams.
- Knowledge and skill in principles, practices, techniques, methods, and procedures applicable to municipal planning, normally acquired through a university degree in Planning or related field, plus progressively responsible experience in a planning related field.
- Must be eligible for full membership or be a full member in good standing with the Canadian Institute of Planners and Ontario Professional Planners Institute as a Registered Professional Planner.
- Knowledge of GIS, project management, analytic modelling, forecasting, land use planning, statistical analysis, and database development and management.
- Leadership skills to supervise, train, develop, motivate, and support staff, and plan and develop achievable program objectives and goals. Demonstrated ability to foster a supportive, respectful, and inclusive work environment.
- Human relations and communication skills in consensus building, active listening, negotiation, influence, and conflict resolution. Ability to create buy-in internally, with the development community, public, stakeholders, area municipal staff, and Council. Ability to participate as an effective team member.
- Ability to travel within (and occasionally outside) Waterloo Region.
