Working within the People & Culture Department and under the direction of the OHS Lead, this role will assist with the on-going improvement, maintenance, and implementation of the City’s Occupational Health and Safety Management System.

Specifically, the OHS CO-OP student will participate in the planning and completion of health and safety projects that align with the department’s strategic goals, objectives, and key performance indicators by providing support within the office or in the field.

Complete research, analyze and interpret health and safety data, prepare summaries, support the completion of risk assessments, safe job procedures and safe work practices, take part in field and shop inspections, and present to supervisor and key stakeholders for next steps.

Collaborate with team members to identify opportunities for improvement and engage with stakeholders to solicit and document feedback.

**POSITION FUNCTION**

As a student hired under the Co-operative Educational Training Program, you will be given meaningful and challenging assignments while being introduced to a career in municipal government. In this Co-op position you will assist with supernumerary projects and contribute to the overall goals of the work unit.

**KEY DUTIES**

Under the direct guidance and observation of the supervisor, assist with the on-going enhancement of the City’s operations by utilizing existing tools and software platforms.

Participate in the development and improvement of future-focussed projects that align with the department’s strategic goals and objectives by providing supernumerary field or office support.

Conduct and document research, analyze and interpret data, prepare summary of findings, draft reports, procedures and/or practices, and present to supervisor for feedback and/or next steps.

Assist with identifying and testing new and/or enhanced tools and processes and collaborate to ensure ‘shared learning’.

**INDEPENDENCE**

Work is assigned by supervisor and reviewed upon completion.

Problems are referred to supervisor.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification**:
High School.

Enrolled in a recognized Co-operative Education Program at a Canadian Post-Secondary Institution.

Currently attending full-time education and returning to full-time studies in the subsequent academic year.

In good standing in an Undergraduate Degree Program or Technical School Diploma Program.

**Experience**:
Not required.
