**Co-op Student - Get Growing Victoria (Temporary - up to 5 months)**

**Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department**

Get Growing, Victoria is an award-winning seedlings and soil-building materials distribution program, whereby the City of Victoria grows food plants and provides soil-building materials to the public through partnerships with over 60 non-profit organizations, with a focus on supporting underserved and equity-deserving communities.

This co-op student position is key to the operations of Get Growing, Victoria as the role is responsible for delivering seedlings to all the Neighbourhood Distribution Day sites and to organizations that face barriers to transport their seedling orders. The selected person in this role will require their full Class 5 driver's licence, be comfortable driving an Econoline Van, and be able to lift tents and tables (up to 50 lbs). The role is required to work Tuesday

Moreover, this role will also support the City of Victoria's Growing in the City summer programs, by being the person checking participants in before the workshop or event and being the onsite person with Standard First Aid. Some evening and weekend work is required. This role is dynamic and hands-on, with lots of opportunities to connect with community and learn from the diverse areas of the Parks, Recreation and Facilities Department.

**POSITION FUNCTION**

As a student hired under the Co-operative Educational Training Program, you will be given meaningful and challenging assignments while being introduced to a career in municipal government. In this Co-op position you will assist with supernumerary projects and contribute to the overall goals of the work unit.

**KEY DUTIES**

Under the direct guidance and observation of the supervisor, assist with the on-going enhancement of the City’s operations by utilizing existing tools and software platforms.

Participate in the development and improvement of future-focussed projects that align with the department’s strategic goals and objectives by providing supernumerary field or office support.

Conduct and document research, analyze and interpret data, prepare summary of findings, draft reports, procedures and/or practices, and present to supervisor for feedback and/or next steps.

Assist with identifying and testing new and/or enhanced tools and processes and collaborate to ensure ‘shared learning’.

**INDEPENDENCE**

Work is assigned by supervisor and reviewed upon completion.

Problems are referred to supervisor.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

**Formal Education, Training and Occupational Certification**:
High School.

Enrolled in a recognized Co-operative Education Program at a Canadian Post-Secondary Institution.

Currently attending full-time education and returning to full-time studies in the subsequent academic year.

In good standing in an Undergraduate Degree Program or Technical School Diploma Program.

**Experience**:
Not required.

or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

**Pre-Employment Requirements**

Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

**Work schedule: Monday to Friday (few weekend shifts required), (35 hour work week).**

**$30.85 per hour, Pay Grade 2**
