**The salary range for this position is**:
**Recruitment range: $68,897- $75,964** starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.

**Performance range: starting salary to max of $89,609** is available through annual performance increases.

- Job SummaryOcean Networks Canada (ONC) is a world-leading organization supporting ocean discovery and technological innovation for science, society, and industry. ONC monitors the west and east coasts of Canada and the Arctic to continuously deliver data in real-time for scientific research and discovery and technological innovation.

ONC operates and manages innovative cabled observatories that supply continuous power and Internet connectivity to various scientific instruments located in coastal, deep-ocean, and Arctic environments. ONC’s cable arrays host thousands of sensors distributed in, on and above the seabed along with mobile and land based assets strategically located, instruments that address key scientific and policy issues such as subsea earthquakes, tsunamis, ocean acidification, marine biodiversity within a wide range of environments.

The Learning and Community Engagement department of ONC comprises four teams: Education, Indigenous Engagement, Community-Based Monitoring and Community-Engaged Research. Collectively, the department seeks to grow and support ONC’s community user base, with the teams focusing on Indigenous communities (including First Nations, Métis, and Inuit); social scientists and community-engaged researchers; and participates in local monitoring programs.

As a part of the Education Team, the Post-secondary Education Coordinator (PSEC)

independently develops, implements, and evaluates education and engagement initiatives aimed at educators and students at post-secondary institutions in BC, across Canada and internationally. The PSEC actively pursues and supports opportunities, including the creation of short courses, for engaging adults, community learners and the public in ocean science and technology and the mandate of ONC.

The PSEC uses their scientific and teaching expertise to incorporate ONC’s high-tech advances and scientific discoveries into educational materials. This role fosters a greater understanding of ocean observatories, their value, relevance and importance to the global ocean, climate, and planet, and contributes to the building of a strong work force in the expanding ocean sector.

This position supervises work-study students and is responsible for the supervision and mentoring of teaching assistant lab instructors many of whom are UVic graduate students gaining teaching experience for the first time.

This position is occasionally required to coordinate, travel to, and promote ONC at conferences, events, and workshops.
- Job RequirementsThe position requires a PhD degree in science (e.g., with a focus on ocean science, biology, geophysics), engineering or computer science, or a PhD in another field with demonstrated knowledge and experience of ocean science and technology.

Knowledge Requirements:
A minimum of 2 years of experience developing and delivering educational materials at a post-secondary level, and experience with public speaking and presentations is required.

- Superior communication skills, both written, verbal and interpersonal.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake scientific research.
- Ability to take complex scientific and technical information and turn it into compelling materials.
