**Key Responsibilities**

Under the direction of the NCO i/c of Central Operations, Support Services, is responsible for the extraction, organization, controlling and direction of technical evidence where computers and electronic storage devices are used as a tool to facilitate the direction of an offence.

(2) Use police equipment and technology by developing and maintaining in-depth knowledge of computers and electronic storage devices as well as specialized software and tools designed for forensic analysis.
(3) Maintains knowledge of different operating systems, cellular systems, computer networks and the Internet.
(4) Manages multiple and/or complex files that involve multiple exhibits, victims, witnesses, and methods of retrieving and protecting evidence stored on a computer. Works in cooperation with other police agencies and other RPS sections.
(5) Receives evidence in the form of computers and other electronic devices and applies specialized techniques to recover and restore data and archives digital evidence.
(6) Attends to crime scenes with investigators to provide on-scene support in the recovery of evidence.
(7) Protects volatile data including encryption, live memory data, network connections and running processes.
(8) Applies expertise in the area of search and seizure to ensure, as much as possible, the admissibility of evidence.
(9) Prepare police reports including highly detailed and thorough forensic digital analysis reports. Maintains an intake log, hard drive log, and forensics log as required by RPS.
(10) Deliver court testimony when necessary. May be designated as an expert witness.
(11) Other related duties as assigned.

**Competencies**

(1) Grade 12 or equivalent.
(2) 2 years of post-secondary education in a related field (computer technology, repair, operating, networks, etc.).
(3) A+ Certification would be an asset.
(4) Minimum of 2 years related work experience.
(5) Demonstrated knowledge of software engineering, computer file systems, operating systems, electronic device analysis, data communications analysis and data extraction and storage.
(6) Ability to successfully complete the courses in the Technological Crime Understudy program (a combination of courses offered by the Canadian Police College and the private sector). Must be willing to continue study to stay up to date on industry changes and developments.
(7) Excellent communications skills, written and oral, including the ability to prepare and deliver presentations to a variety of audiences.
(8) Excellent organization and time management skills.
(9) The ability to work independently or as part of a team.
(10) The ability to listen, appraise, analyse, problem solve and advise.

Pay: $73,733.00-$92,237.00 per year
