Position Summary: Drop-in/Outreach Staff will assist participants to meet their day-to-day needs by providing access to supplies, resources, and referrals, using empowerment and harm reduction philosophies. They will support the day-to-day operations of our drop-in and outreach programs while building relationships and providing compassionate, non-judgmental support to community members. They may also support with other programs of the Community Services Department, as needed.
Start Date: ASAP
**Salary**: $19/h + 6% vacation pay
Time requirement: Casual position

Duties and Responsibilities:
Drop-in:
- Maintain a safe space at the Centre where all are welcome and respected
- Monitor participant safety and well-being (physical, emotional, mental)
- Ensure that the Drop-In space is clean, well maintained and organized
- Perform cleaning and sanitization tasks throughout the shift as needed
- Be fully aware of WCWRC activities, programming and staff in order to direct inquires and register participants appropriately
- Maintain positive and constructive working relationships with coworkers through teamwork, collaboration, and debriefing
Outreach:
- Maintain team safety inside and surrounding the van during off-site visits
- Preparing, loading, and restocking Outreach supplies, including making harm reduction kits
- Responding to emergencies using Naloxone training and centre emergency response policies
- Connect participants to resources for housing, food security, and cultural supports
- Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the Outreach van and office/storage space
- Collaborating with team members, mentors, volunteers, and community members to maintain constructive working relationships
Participant Support:
- Build trusting relationships with participants
- Model safe, trauma-informed and harm reduction-based practices within the team and with the community
- Prevent and/or identify, intervene and effectively resolve overdose/drug poisoning, violence, and other emergency, crisis and conflict situations
- Provide support to vulnerable participants compassionately and non-judgmentally while maintaining strong personal boundaries
- Facilitate connecting participants with appropriate internal and external resources that will improve their standard of living
Programming:
- Assist with the operation of drop-in services including meals, supply distribution, laundry, shower, phone and computer usage
- Supports with the planning and execution of community programs and events
- Consistently collect and submit agency-required stats into tracking systems
- Support other programs of the Community Services Department, as needed
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Essential
- Ability to work within anti-racist and anti-oppressive frameworks and actively engage in ongoing learning about these frameworks
- Ability to practice participant-centred work and to work from a trauma-informed approach
- Strong interpersonal skills; able to work effectively with diverse individuals and show compassion and understanding
- Strong understanding of and ability to practice harm reduction and empowerment philosophies
- Demonstrated crisis intervention training and experience
- Demonstrated ability to work within an inclusion framework
- Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to work in a respectful and cooperative manner with co-workers, and centre participants
- Basic computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office and Outlook
Preferred
- Lived experience of overcoming housing insecurity, homelessness, poverty and/or marginalization strongly preferred
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License is preferred but not required
- Experience working within the non-profit sector
- Existing knowledge of the issues of marginalization
- Experience working collaboratively with community organizations
