An opening exists in the Strategic Projects Division for the position of Privacy Specialist reporting to Director, Strategic Projects & Privacy.

**Work Location**:This is a hybrid position. The expectation is for most of the day-to-day work to be done remotely, with in-person attendance at Scholastic Canada’s Toronto and Markham offices for occasional events and training or as projects require.

**Primary** **Responsibilities**
- Notices, Policies, and Training_
- Developing required public
- and employee-facing privacy notices that emphasize clarity and end user accessibility by drawing on legislation, regulator guidance, and best practices as needed.
- Developing robust internal privacy procedures and best practices for the company and individual business groups as needed.
- Maintaining and updating privacy policies regularly to reflect any changes in legislation, regulatory guidance, the organization, or its practices.
- Ensuring compliance with all required privacy training and internal policies/procedures.
- Inquiries, Complaints, & Incidents_
- Responding to customer requests for access to and correction of personal information and other privacy complaints.
- Establishing and maintaining a process for documenting and resolving requests for access and/or correction of personal information, privacy complaints, and breaches.
- Coordinating and communicating with provincial and federal commissions and affected individuals during any investigations related to privacy complaints or breaches.
- Maintaining a detailed log of privacy incidents, developing metrics and following up on short-term and long-term corrective actions taken by the business.
- Data Maps & Privacy Impact Assessments _
- Collaborating with technology and business teams to maintain detailed data maps/directories for any processes/systems where personal information is collected or shared.
- Assess the need for a Privacy Impact Assessment and conducting Privacy Impact Assessments when required, providing guidance to address gaps and overseeing any remediation resulting from such assessments to ensure compliance.
- Providing leadership to business and technology teams for the development of privacy or privacy-related consent forms, authorization forms, and notices anywhere that personal information is collected across the organization.
- Working with Software and Technology Services and other business teams to document, review and assess the practices of any third parties who receive or have access to Scholastic-collected Personal Information.
- General_
- Keeping up to date on relevant and applicable privacy legislation, regulatory guidance, and cases including undertaking regular, continuing education in the privacy field.

**Qualifications**
- A minimum of 3-5 years’ related experience developing and/or leading the full lifecycle of a privacy program.
- Possesses OR willing to attain an IAPP (CIPM or CIPP-C) designation
- Highly developed written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to lead with influence outside of direct reporting structures and to clearly explain technical and legal concepts to a variety of audiences
- Exceptional organizational skills, with a detailed, accurate, and analytical mindset
- Ability to analyze business needs and develop strategic, integrated recommendations and solutions
- Self-reliant and autonomous with demonstrated management and leadership skills
- Ability and willingness to travel amongst Canadian locations and US offices
- Computer skills: MS Office suite, Jira, Confluence, Google suite.
- Project management experience an asset
