Reporting to the Director, Learner Support Services (LSS), the Financial Aid Coordinator performs complex administrative duties which support the financial wellness of all NOSM University (NOSM U) learners. The Financial Aid Coordinator assists the LSS Office in financial wellness coordination, planning, information management, communication, and project development; and supports the overall LSS mandate in various cross-program initiatives including supporting the financial aid needs of the learners at NOSM University on the East Campus.

This position is covered by the Terms and Conditions of the OPSEU Unit 677 Collective Agreement (Unit 2). A copy is available on the NOSM University website.

**Responsibilities**:
Tasks may include but are not limited to the following:

- In collaboration with the Financial Aid Officer, oversee the administration of financial aid programs, ensuring compliance with provincial and institutional regulations.
- Works collaboratively with the Director, Learner Support Services to ensure that the tasks, accountabilities and responsibilities listed below in the areas of financial assistance are met for all NOSM U Learners.
- Assists in the administration of government learner aid programs (e.g. OSAP) including responding to learner questions.
- Provides sound advice regarding financial options to all NOSM U Learners, including one-on-one consultations. Understand and the relevant regulations and policies regarding protecting private and confidential learner information.
- Evaluates the eligibility of individual NOSM U Learners for emergency financial assistance and for the possible deferment of learner fees as per approved policy.
- Collaborates with the Financial Aid Officer, develop and deliver financial literacy workshops to educate learners on budgeting, loan management, and overall financial wellness.
- Collaborates with external agencies, scholarship providers, and community organizations to expand financial aid opportunities.
- Maintains accurate records and databases related to financial aid disbursement, learner profiles, and compliance documentation.
- Generates reports to assess the effectiveness of financial aid programs and identify areas for improvement.
- In collaboration with the Financial Aid Officer, prepare and submit required reports to relevant agencies and accrediting bodies.
- Remains updated on changes in financial aid policies and communicate updates to all learners at NOSM U
- Acts as a role model of the organization’s values in daily work activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**:

- A University degree in a related discipline (e.g., Finance, Business Administration, or related field) from a recognized university with Canadian accreditation or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

**Knowledge, Skills and Abilities**:

- Minimum of three (3) years of related experience is required
- An understanding of the education environment and health education system in Northern Ontario and Canada
- Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse learner population
- Familiarity with Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP), student bursaries and scholarships
- Strong interpersonal, teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, and teamwork skills are required
- A well-established reputation for appropriate discretion and confidentiality is an asset
- Familiarity with customer service best practices
- Ability to adapt and respond to ever-changing Ministry policies
- Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Excel PowerPoint, Outlook) is required
- Understanding of the Colleague Management System
- French language skills are considered a strong asset
- Knowledge of basic office practices and procedures is required
- Ability to work early mornings, evenings and/or weekends, as required
- Experience in the medical or post-secondary education environment is an asset

**Language**:

- Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbally, written and comprehension)
- French/Indigenous language skills would be considered asset
