**The Opportunity**
We have a full time 1 year term position available for Youth Services Peer Facilitator who will work as a part of the service team at Huddle Broadway, a highly collaborative partnership between multiple agencies and organizations delivering programming in an integrated youth services hub. Huddle is intended to be a one-stop-shop for youth to have ease of access to mental and physical health, addictions, financial and employment supports, culturally appropriate Indigenous counselling, supports, events and activities as well as opportunities to connect with their community and each other through structured educational programming, and events. This program is designed to help youth (12 - 29) reach their goals and highest potential.
**The Position**
The Peer Facilitator welcomes youth to Huddle services, initiates program intake, supports youth to outline their service needs through the development of a learning plan and then links youth to the desired services within Huddle and the community. The Peer Facilitator relates to and engages with participants using listening-based conversations as well as a self-awareness of one’s own recovery and lived experience to inspire hope, empowerment, and recovery for others. The salary range for this position falls within Band 3 of the 2021 Collective Agreement salary scale with a starting salary of **$37,036.51 **for 35 hours of work per week. Hours are **Monday to Friday 8:30-4:30** **pm** with some flexibility within all CMHA’s operational hours as needed.
**The Qualifications**
**Required**
- High school diploma with an additional program in a human services field of more than one year or up to two years of study.
- One year of direct service experience as a direct service worker (DSW), addictions counsellor, peer support worker, or equivalent. A comparable combination of skills and experience will also be considered.
- Personal lived experience with mental health or substance use/addictions challenges and recovery, as well as a willingness, readiness, and ability to share own experiences.
- A demonstrable desire to work with youth and an understanding of effective youth engagement.
- Knowledge of local mental health and addictions systems and community services.
- Empathy, understanding and peer support skills.
- Effective engagement and communication skills.
- Problem-solving, and time management skills.
- Flexible working hours, including some evenings.
- Must have both a recent satisfactory criminal record check and a child abuse registry check, along with a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
**Preferred**
- Experience facilitating workshops, courses, and programming.
- Knowledge and understanding of Indigenous populations, the impact of colonization on Canada’s Indigenous peoples, the historical and continuing impact of the residential school system, and traditional Indigenous healing and wellness beliefs, practices, and support agencies.
- Knowledge of settlement services and the impacts of immigration on newcomer youth. - An understanding of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth and community services.
- Experience working with people living with disabilities.
- Training in trauma-informed and culturally safe approaches, strengths-based perspective, and general customer service.
- Peer Support Certification or a willingness to pursue certification.
