The School of Public Policy and Global Affairs (SPPGA) is a leading centre for innovation in governance and global public policy. The School is home to the Institute for Asian Research, which includes 5 distinct research centres focusing on Southeast Asia, India and South Asia, China, Korea, and Japan, as well as the Centre for the Study of Democratic Institutions (CSDI), the Office of Regional and International Community Engagement (ORICE), and the Liu Institute for Global Affairs. Job Description Summary

Organizational Status

The Marketing & Communications Assistant reports to the Digital Marketing & Communications Specialist and takes direction for all work related to marketing, communications and events promotion. This position liaises with SPPGA staff, faculty and Work-Learn students. It will also interact with MPPGA teaching faculty, staff in the Faculty of Arts, UBC Central departments, Institute of Asian Research Centres, other UBC partners, current students, prospective students and applicants, and visitors.

Work Performed

Marketing and Communications
- Assists in the implementation and coordination of the SPPGA communications plan and strategy
- Assists with building and shaping the School of Public Policy and Global Affairs brand and identity
- Creates marketing content related to SPPGA student and faculty activities, events, announcements, profiles, partnerships and programs across text, photo and video-based platforms
- Assists in monitoring for SPPGA, its institutes, centres and programs in the news
- Oversees the marketing and communications work of student work learn employees

Graphic Design
- Coordinates print orders by liaising with vendors on quotes, file formats, proofs, and delivery
- Designs and orders branded merchandise and assists with inventory maintenance

Digital Platforms
- Writes, edits and schedules social media content (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn)
- Writes, edits and updates website content including profiles, news stories and event listings.
- Performs basic photography and video editing

Event Promotion and Support
- Provides marketing support to select events hosted by SPPGA (meetings, lectures, workshops, conferences) including: assistance with registration set-up, gathering event details and assets for promotion, creation of promotional graphics, dissemination of event publicity
- Liaises with Institutes, Centre and Program student assistants on event promotion requests
- Submits promotional requests to UBC units including UBC Events Calendar, UBC Digital Signage, and Arts Communications
- Provides pre-planning and onsite logístical support to select events hosted by SPPGA including: assistance with event coordination, setting up the room layout, preparing room signage and any equipment (e.g. banners, table cloths), and post-event tidying up. May assist with the coordination of AV technology and livestreaming.
