**Salary**: $4,149.76 to $5,269.59 bi-weekly ($108,308 - $137,536/year)

The Education Act created the Alberta Teaching Profession Commission, which appointed a Commissioner to oversee teacher, and teacher leader, conduct and competency complaints for the profession. This process applies equally to all teacher and teacher leaders under the Education Act. The Commission oversees the model for teacher and teacher leader professionalism and disciplinary matters.

**Role Responsibilities**:
The Commission is seeking an experienced individual for the position of Director, Investigations. In this position, you will demonstrate your high degree of discretion and confidentiality as well as the ability to work with complex situations under strict guidelines and timelines.

As the Director, Investigations, you will be responsible for providing leadership and oversight for comprehensive investigations related to both teacher conduct complaints and complaints relating to unskilled or incompetent teachers or teacher leaders governed by applicable Legislation and Regulation.

Formal complaints regarding the conduct or competency of teachers and teacher leaders are filed with the Registrar, after which they are referred to the Commission for next steps. If necessary, the Commissioner may order an investigation which is fulfilled by this branch. You will oversee the investigations branch and will be responsible for leading a team of investigators. Your direction and leadership will ensure effective, transparent, and efficient investigative services to support the work of the Commissioner.

As Director, Investigations, you will be responsible for the following activities in the branch:
**1. Provide leadership and direction for the investigation's unit**:

- Under the Direction of the Commissioner, leads the provision of high-quality investigations.
- Leads a team of investigators who investigate complaints of professional incompetence and unprofessional conduct against teachers and teacher leaders who hold Alberta certification.
- Understands and adheres to the applicable legislation and regulation that influence the work of the Investigations unit, including timelines.
- Establishes and oversees an investigation process to ensure all information regarding the complaint is gathered, documented, and assessed to determine appropriate action.
- Researches, analyzes, and develops the investigations model that will be the foundation for the work of the unit.
- Develops workflow processes ensuring efficiency and effectiveness is maximized through a streamlined triage of formal complaints that require investigation, clear and defined access points for formal complaints into the investigation process, common components for completing investigations, and consistent tools and supports.
- Research best practices and develops tools and resources to support workflow and influence a common approach to investigations.
- Establish best practices to ensure tracking and reporting requirements for active cases are provided to the Commissioner in a timely manner to help support effective resolution for disciplinary matters.

**2. Provides leadership, direction, coaching, and mentoring for the investigation's unit**:

- Provides leadership and guidance to staff regarding overall direction, translating executive messages and discussions, and conveying to staff how their work aligns with the principles of the Commission and the broader GoA public service.
- Supports the investigations unit in day-to-day skill enhancement and competency development to support staff in meeting current and future challenges.
- Leads, mentors, and coaches staff members to support continual improvement, capacity development, and effective decision-making.
- Ensures performance and learning and development plans are in place to support staff career development.
- Expenditure officer for the unit. This ensures financial policies comply with regulations, directives, and policies.
- Influences organization structure and recruitment strategy including resource allocation, approach to recruiting talent, and education strategy
