**JOB SUMMARY**:
Reporting to the Director, People Services, the Manager, Occupational Health & Abilities is responsible for the overall leadership of the Occupational Health Nursing and Abilities program. This role will direct and lead the development, implementation, administration and evaluation of the Occupational Health and Abilities programs and services, ensuring high quality outcomes using best practices and pro-active leadership. This position works collaboratively with all members of the People Services team and creates a professional environment while supporting operational efficiencies and optimizing team functioning.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
" Manage the operations of the occupational health nursing and abilities program by maintaining the continuity, consistency and efficient day to day functioning of the Occupational Health and Abilities services
" Manages the activities of the occupational health nursing team including health surveillance, communicable disease surveillance, immunization programs, regulatory reporting, crisis intervention, support and return to work.
" Manages the activities of abilities and health including occupational and non-occupational Abilities Management, i.e. return to work, accommodation activities, WSIB case management
" Supervises and evaluates work performance of the nursing and abilities program staff in terms of client care, staff relationships, efficiency of service and performance
" As a strategic partner with HR and other departmental stakeholders, promote and foster services that enable the achievement of the overall hospital objectives while successfully engaging employees, at all levels throughout the organization, to embrace occupational health, abilities and wellness as a core value
" Develop and implement policies, procedures, practice and programs to ensure successful realization of the corporate goals relate to employee abilities and health
" Ensure that programs are current, competitive and in compliance with benefit guidelines and legislative requirements and collective agreement compliance, and that standard operation procedures are in place to support consistent practices across the organization
" Work with the Consulting Occupational Health Physician and Supervising Occupational Health Nurse to develop and implement related clinical protocols, practice guidelines, health promotion and disease prevention resources
" Collect data/metrics and organizational trends, performs data analysis; prepare performance reports for senior management.
" Liaise with departments and union representatives as required;
" Advise and assist team members and clients in problem solving with the goal of continuous improvement and client satisfaction.
" Lead the delivery of new or existing programs and services ensuring optimal performance, safe and efficient front line care for colleagues, efficient STD/WSIB claims management and associated return to work activities
" Responsible for managing and ensuring that all medical information collected meets with established policies and procedures of necessary medical evidence and held in strict confidence
" Anticipates and scans the environment for emerging challenges, risks and best practices to ensure optimal performance and compliance with changing guidelines, standards of care and legislation including any related case law
" On-going process and procedure improvement focused on effective disability management and attendance support initiatives with the goal of regular, consistent and sustained attendance and reduction of (payroll) errors
" Other duties as assigned
**REQUIREMENTS**:
" Minimum 10 years of experience in the field of Abilities/Disability Management
" Minimum 5 years of experience in leading and overseeing a team
" Previous experience in a hospital, healthcare or heavily unionized environment
" Knowledge of and experience utilizing Parklane Systems software or similar system
" Demonstrated knowledge of relevant legislation, standards, and related best practice guidelines;
" Certified Human Resources Professional or Certified Disability Management Professional, preferred;
" Prior experience in process design and improvement with a focus on optimization and efficiencies
" Strong leadership skills, strategic thinking, with the ability to develop and maintain partnerships with multiple diverse stakeholders
" Demonstrated ability to provide a customer centered approach to service delivery
" Demonstrated excellence in critical thinking, decision making, problem solving and priority setting, comfortable with ambiguity
" Authentic and dynamic communication skills (oral/written/presentation) with the ability to mediate and man
