**Residential Program Worker**

(Casual, indeterminate position)
- Interval House of Ottawa is a 38-bed emergency home for those fleeing Violence Against Women/Gender-Based Violence and their dependents and is the only shelter in Ottawa that provides on-site housing for their pets._

**SCOPE OF POSITION**

Under the supervision of the Program Manager and participating as part of the Residential Program team, the Residential Program Worker provides immediate and responsive support to women and their children experiencing violence at Interval House of Ottawa-Maison Interval d’Ottawa (IHO) in accordance with the Framework for Services to Abused Women, IHO mission and values, and the needs of diverse communities. Participation in and promotion of cooperative living is a component of this position.

**DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Provide crisis intervention through telephone and personal contact with women experiencing violence;
- Assess level of risk and execute emergency measures and safety planning as necessary;
- Assess requests for residential shelter services according to IHO policies and procedures, ensuring alternatives are found if IHO services are not appropriate;
- Assess with women what resources might best serve their needs;
- Conduct intake and discharge process for all residents, including move in/move out procedures;
- Assist residents of IHO with cooperative living guidelines, including compliance with household responsibilities and conflict resolution;
- Provide opportunity for and facilitate peer support among residents;
- Maintain client, program, statistical and agency records in compliance with policies and procedures and to ensure confidentiality as required by legislation;
- Advocate for the needs of women and children experiencing violence, as required;
- Promote participation of clients in activities designed to education and/or advocate for prevention of violence against women;
- Transition bedrooms after a resident moves out;
- Perform household chores as required to meet health and safety standards;
- Provide new residents with an orientation to the house.

**EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE**
- SSW, BSW or equivalent in experience, education and training;
- CPR/First Aid certification required;
- Demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of community-based model of intervention and feminist principles;
- Knowledge of Violence Against Women issues;
- Demonstrated crisis intervention and counselling skills;
- Demonstrated group facilitation skills;
- Proven conflict resolution skills;
- Proven ability to work independently, and within a team approach;
- Strong communication skills;
- Multitasking abilities;
- Demonstrated ability to identify and serve the needs of diverse communities.

**LANGUAGE COMPETENCIES**
- Ability to communication fluently in English - spoken and written;
- Ability to communicate in another language an asset.

**COMPUTER COMPETENCIES**
- Word processing - Intermediate;
- Database management - Intermediate;
- E-mail software - Intermediate;
**SALARY / HOURS**
- $26.24/hour
- 7.25 -11.25 hour shifts;
- Must be available to work day, evening, overnight weekday and weekends
- Must be available to replace staff on short notice
- Must be available to work Statutory holidays including Christmas, Boxing Day, New Years Day, Family Day, Good Friday, National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Canada Day, Thanksgiving Day and Victoria Day
