**Intake Resource and Referral worker and Violence Against Women Counselor**

**Permanent Full-time position - 35 hours per week**

**Half time intake resource and referral worker**

**Half time VAW counselor**

Reporting to a Program Manager, the responsibilities of this position are to**:

- Assess and respond to all client requests
- Provides crisis intervention services and short-term counseling services in person, virtually, and by telephone
- Prioritizes client’s needs based on urgency/severity and complexity of circumstances
- Informs and refers clients to the appropriate services
- Liaises with emergency services providers
- Perform thorough risk assessment and safety planning with women
- Demonstrate understanding and ability to work within a feminist framework
- Advocates on behalf of the individual/family to ensure that the clients receive community support, health, social, legal, financial, and recreational services as required
- Consults with Centre staff and other services to develop a comprehensive service plan when appropriate
- Facilitates support groups
- Experience in a community-based setting and thorough knowledge of community resources
- Monitors service trends and gaps for program planning and development
- Mobilizes and coordinates appropriate resources to respond to the need
- Provides accompaniment services to clients, when required
- Participates in community development or projects (committees, groups, etc.) as agreed by the Centre
- Prepares and maintains all necessary documentation and statistical records related to the position
- Participates as an active member in staff meetings and staff development
- Performs other related duties

**Qualifications**
- BSW, or degree in another related discipline; will also consider diploma from a post secondary institution with relevant experience
- Minimum of two years experience in a community-based social service agency as a front
- line worker and thorough knowledge and understanding of community resources
- Demonstrated counseling and crisis intervention skills
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of community resources
- Strong advocacy skills
- Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
- A willingness to maintain high quality, client centered services through superior organizational and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated understanding of the particular needs and issues faced by diverse and marginalized groups such as poverty, mental health and violence
- Non-judgmental and egalitarian attitude
- Excellent oral and written English and French is imperative (third language an asset)
- Excellent computer skills
- Ability to work flexible hours which may include evening and weekends

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent
