City of Edmonton Urban Foresters are tasked with the administration, and adherence of the City of Edmonton’s Corporate Tree Management Policy C-456C, the Urban Forest Management Plan and the Urban Forest Management Plan as they relate to all public trees.

This Urban Forester position will be part of the Urban Forestry Pruning Team and will play a key role supporting programs and projects including Decorative Tree Lighting, Wood Reclamation and supporting tree maintenance activities in Business Improvement Areas (BIAs). Some key responsibilities will be to:

- Support the Pruning Team with project administration, process and implementation, delivery of projects, implementation and process improvement focusing on existing programs such as Decorative Tree Lighting Program, Wood Reclamation and Center Core Tree Maintenance
- Oversee the Decorative Tree Lighting Permitting Program and work closely with stakeholders to ensure that service levels and program requirements are communicated and that all policies and procedures are followed
- Administer contracts related to Decorative Tree Lighting and other arboriculture services as needed
- Identify and liaise with key stakeholders/SMEs to leverage their expertise to contribute to the project needs and success.
- Provide cost management and quality control support
- Attend site meetings and perform support/administrative activities.
- Contribute to the design review, implementation and continuous improvement of project management processes and practices.
- Comply with all applicable policies, directives, guidelines and processes.
- Participate actively in the development and documentation of project lessons learned and risk management.
- Perform quality control inspections on Decorative Tree Lighting and the Wood Reclamation Program
- Use best management practices to encourage and implement new methodologies of caring for municipal trees
- Remain up to date on new innovations and research related to the programs
- Educate and communicate the benefits of trees, the importance of tree preservation and tree maintenance to both private and public stakeholders
- Respond to 311 inquiries relating to City trees and decorative tree lighting, wood reclamation and tree maintenance in BIAs
- Ensure that comprehensive policies, procedures and practices are developed, adopted and implemented to create as safe a working environment as possible
- Work closely with other Urban Foresters and Arborists to provide an integrated approach within Urban Forestry
- Perform other related duties as required

**Qualifications**:

- Minimum 2 year post secondary diploma in Forestry or related field Or Journeyperson Landscape Horticulturist
- Minimum 5 years experience in Arboriculture and or Landscape Construction
- Strong technical, functional and professional knowledge and skills in Arboriculture; knowledge of current developments, innovation and trends in Arboriculture
- Experience with tree maintenance in a municipal environment
- Experience working on hazardous trees and or storm damage response
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's license (or provincial equivalent). Must arrange own transportation to be reimbursed in accordance with the City of Edmonton policy. This will require business auto insurance
- Obtain and maintain a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
- ISA Certified Arborist an asset
- Project Management Certification an asset
- TRAQ (Tree Risk Assessment Qualification) an asset
- Experience assessing insect and diseases on trees is an asset
- Understand equipment required to complete arboriculture tasks
- Contract or Staff supervision experience
- Good understanding of computer programs and GIS
- Knowledge of arboriculture techniques and practices
- Ability to deal effectively with the public
- Ability to express decisions both orally and in writing
- Public communications and Public relations experience
