Fcss - Family School Liason

The Family School Liaison Program is offered in partnership with Aspen View Public Schools and is a preventive program designed to meet the social and emotional needs of children and youth. The worker will provide regular one-on-one supportive goal-based counseling sessions as well as facilitate specialized small groups. Travel is involved to schools throughout Athabasca County. A degree or diploma in the human services field, as well as a criminal record check (vulnerable sector) and prior involvement check are required.

The salary range for this position is $59,100 - $69,155. Athabasca County offers an excellent benefit package and contributes to the Local Authorities Pension Plan.

**Description Summary**:
The Family School Liaison Worker provides services to students from Kindergarten to Grade 12, their families, school staff, and the community to help improve the quality of the lives of students in the areas of Personal Development/Self-Control, Relationships, Life Management/Coping Skills, Self-Esteem/Self-Awareness, and Community Resources.

**Position Duties**:
Under direction from the Manager of FCSS, the duties of the position will include the following:

- To provide services to students, including one-on-one supportive counseling sessions, small group sessions, presentations, mediation, resource information, and referrals to other appropriate services.
- To provide services to adults with children or youth, including resource information, support through mediation or liaison support, family meetings, and referrals to other appropriate services.
- To provide services to school staff, including case conferencing, resource information, liaison support, and referrals to other appropriate services.
- To participate in on-going professional development though networking meetings, workshops, courses, and/or conferences to enhance and develop FSLW job skills and education.
- To provide services at schools and in the community as needed in Critical Incidents.

**Qualifications**:
Degree or Diploma in Social Work, Human Services, Education or Health Care is required.

Minimum of 1-2 years of work experience in this field.

Current/updated Suicide Intervention and Standard First Aid and CPR.

A Criminal Record Check (vulnerable sector) and a Prior Involvement Check will be required.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Case management/professional documentation skills.

Strong organizational skills and be detail orientated.

Time management, goal setting, planning and implementation are key skills.

Proficiency working with Microsoft Office Suite preferred.

Applicant must have a reliable vehicle with business insurance, as this position involves travelling to schools and surrounding areas.
